What To Expect In This Position….
As an Estimator in our steel distribution division, you will play a crucial role in supporting our sales and operations teams by providing accurate and timely cost estimates for a variety of steel products and projects. You will leverage your expertise in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to assess project specifications, prepare detailed estimates, and collaborate closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure the successful execution of projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare Detailed Estimates: Analyze project drawings, specifications, and other documents to produce accurate cost estimates for steel products and services.
- CAD Analysis: Utilize CAD software to review and interpret technical drawings, ensuring accurate material take-offs and dimensions for estimating purposes.
- Vendor Liaison: Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to obtain pricing information and ensure the accuracy of cost data.
- Project Collaboration: Work closely with sales, operations, and project management teams to develop estimates that meet client needs and project requirements.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate with clients to clarify project details, answer questions, and provide additional information as needed.
- Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies in project estimates, providing value engineering options where applicable.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare and submit formal bids and proposals in response to customer requests, ensuring all required information is included and accurate.
- Document Management: Maintain organized records of estimates, proposals, and related documentation for future reference and auditing purposes.
- Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends, material costs, and market conditions to ensure competitive and accurate estimates.
Qualifications

- Strong knowledge of steel and related products and the steel industry, within a fast paced service center atmosphere
- REQUIRED: Minimum 2-5 years of experience in the metal industry (steel, aluminum, copper, stainless, etc.)

- CAD Proficiency: Strong experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is required.
- Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of steel products, industry standards, and manufacturing processes.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
- Detail-Oriented: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of estimating and documentation.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and contribute to shared goals.
- Time Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred, but not required with equivalent experience.
