Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Summary:

To oversee and direct all activities of the Machine Shop as it pertains to cost, quality, and delivery of Fori products.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Candidate must demonstrate the following to be considered:

Organized by SQDCH – Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Human.

Safety 

• Lead and enforce safe working practices throughout the plant and all customer sites. 
• Responsible for the proper execution of safety procedures/ training as outlined and identified by Fori Automation management, MIOSHA, and OSHA.  Organize and follow-up as required with safety team responsibilities and confirm execution of required tasks.
• Follow and enforce good housekeeping practices as defined by leadership throughout the plant.  Responsible for housekeeping in the following areas of the plant: 1) Machine Shop office, 2) Machine Shop, 3) Saw area, 4) Weld area, 5) De-burr area.

Quality

• Lead good craftsmanship on jobs that are being built by assuring that procedures/practices are in place that will assure quality workmanship by all department personnel.
• Responsible for compliance to all established administrative and quality procedures as outlined by Fori Automation leadership. (ie: QS-9000TE, ISO etc.)
• Responsible to complete a quality check of all machined components relative to print requirements and verify that components are correct and is of quality construction.
• Follow-up/enforce completion as required in process QC check sheets.  Follow-up/enforce completion as required QC audits.
• Verifies all machining programs are correct.

Delivery

• Responsible for prioritizing the daily activities of all Machine Shop departmental activities/personnel to assure delivery dates that are compliant with established due dates. (Machine schedules, weld schedules, outside services, etc.)
• Works in close conjunction with Master Scheduler, Mechanical Assembly Supervisor, and Purchasing to prioritize daily work requirements for department.
• Is an active participant in subcontracting decision making for outside machining processes. This is done in conjunction with Purchasing, Operations Manager, and Scheduling.
• Responsible to determine and execute proper manning requirements for the department(s) based on current and future capacity needs. (This is done in conjunction with the Operations Manager)
• Responsible for assuring that all department equipment is properly maintained and in good working condition at all times. This includes proper PM and arranging for corrective maintenance when a machine is not working properly.  This includes all machine shop equipment, Spray booth, Fabrication/Saw and Weld equipment for the entire plant.  Additionally, disposal of cutting fluids, scrap metal.  The Machine Shop Supervisor is to identify what is needed and work with Purchasing to get the best source in to complete the required work.
• Responsible for making recommendations about the purchase of new equipment and/or eliminating old equipment.
• Works with the Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Assembly departments on cost and timing improvements, Engineering Changes, and Continuous Improvement activities.
• Provides necessary feedback to Scheduling, Mechanical Assembly, Purchasing, and Management relative to specific cost and timing issues.
• Responsible for monitoring company-established measurables and reprioritizing or adjusting systems/procedures to obtain the desired results. Also responsible for documenting, record keeping, and presentation to management of measurables.
• Responsible for the organization of Machine Shop department data (both printed and electronic) and effective and timely communication with all other departments concerning this data.
• Assists Mechanical Engineering in the proper design of components.

Cost

• Works with the Mechanical Engineering department on cost and timing improvements, Engineering Changes, and Continuous Improvement activities.
• Lead the change process: recommend, initiate, and follow-up as needed on engineering changes and document according to ECO procedures.  Document changes per ECO process using the kiosk located on the shop floor.
• Work on continuous improvement projects as needed.

Human

• Responsible to fulfill all administrative requirements for hiring, firing, discipline, merit recognition, and technical development of all reporting personnel.
• Responsible to determine training needs of department personnel and work with Operations Manager to determine best way to execute those needs.  Mentor and develop Leaders.
• Must maintain a professional and cooperative relationship with all Fori personnel and actively participate in problem solving with other departments as it relates to Machine shop/Painting/Fabrication issues.
• Support special assignments as needed.

Education and Experience:

Educational: High School Diploma required

                     Journeyman card/status required

                     Associates Degree in Technical field preferred

Training:       Management practices, machining principles, inspection and test procedures, must know                                        

                     How to program, set-up, and run all Fori equipment.

Experience:  2 years previous supervisory experience

                     5 years experience as leader

                     10 years experience as an all-around machinist
