Role overview
The Block is hiring a Wall Street Reporter to cover the rapidly deepening intersection of traditional finance and digital assets: what banks, asset managers, exchanges, and institutional investors are doing through ETFs, tokenization, custody, trading desks, and treasury strategies. Despite the Remote label, the role is based in the greater New York City area and is open only to candidates currently residing in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut, with frequent travel to New York City for in-person meetings and events. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
No specific salary figure is stated in the original posting.
Responsibilities
- Report on Wall Street's engagement with digital assets, including banks, asset managers, hedge funds, market makers, exchanges, and other institutional players
- Break news and land industry-defining scoops before they are widely known
- Build and maintain a deep network of sources across trading desks, investment banks, asset management firms, and the institutional crypto ecosystem
- Collect, verify, and analyze newsworthy information, including market data, regulatory filings, and earnings reports
- Write and deliver clear, accurate news stories with readers' perspective in mind, from quick-turn breaking news to in-depth features and investigations
- Attend industry events, conferences, and in-person meetings in New York to develop sources and surface story ideas
- Represent The Block on camera and on air, including podcasts, video content, external media appearances, and moderating or speaking on panels
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a reporter covering Wall Street, financial markets, banking, or institutional finance
- A track record of breaking news and cultivating sources in the financial industry
- Strong understanding of financial markets, instruments, and institutions, including reading a 10-K, parsing an ETF filing, and explaining a balance sheet
- Excellent news judgment and the ability to write quickly, clearly, and accurately under deadline pressure
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, demanding, 24/7 news environment
- Willingness and comfort appearing on camera, including podcasts, video segments, and external media appearances, with strong verbal communication and presentation skills
- Candidates must have the legal right to work in the United States without sponsorship
Application conditions
- This role is open only to candidates currently residing in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut, despite the Remote label; the ideal candidate travels to New York City frequently for in-person meetings, events, and team gatherings
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis; the employer states it cannot provide or take over visa sponsorship
- The role requires being on the ground in New York City: meeting sources in person and attending industry events
- The original posting does not state a specific salary figure, so this draft states none
Preferred qualifications
- Experience reporting on cryptocurrency and digital assets
- Familiarity with on-chain data, blockchain tools, and crypto market structure
- Prior broadcast or podcast experience
Compensation and benefits
- Competitive, location-based compensation with a comprehensive benefits package
- Remote work flexibility and paid time off with local holiday policies respected
- Health and wellness benefits, flexible PTO, and 401(k)
What this role focuses on
- This is a Wall Street beat, not a general crypto news role: the story is what banks, asset managers, exchanges, and institutional investors are doing in digital assets, and why it matters
- Sourcing is the core skill: in-person relationships in New York are what generate exclusive stories, so this is not a fully location-free remote job
- Speed and accuracy matter equally: quick-turn breaking news and in-depth investigations are both part of the job
Application preparation (editorial suggestions)
- Prepare Wall Street reporting experience: be ready to show scoops and source relationships in banking, markets
