Los Angeles, CA, United States University of Southern California Full-time $200,000 - $345,000

Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Clinical Radiation Oncology Medical Physics

Position Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is recruiting two full-time clinical medical physics faculty members at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. Successful candidates will join the department’s medical physics group and provide comprehensive clinical physics services across the USC radiation oncology network. Site assignments will reflect departmental needs, candidate expertise, and program priorities; candidates may support more than one location, including sites in Los Angeles, Pasadena, Arcadia, and Newport Beach.

Clinical responsibilities may include treatment planning for IMRT, VMAT, SRS, and other radiation therapy techniques; patient-specific quality assurance; equipment quality assurance; commissioning and acceptance testing; radiation safety and regulatory compliance; and collaboration with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and other members of the care team. Gamma Knife radiosurgery may be part of an assignment based on program needs. Gamma Knife experience is a plus, but is not required for every position.

Candidates will contribute to the department’s academic mission through teaching and mentoring medical physics residents and trainees. Participation in quality and safety initiatives, program development, and scholarly activities is encouraged and supported in keeping with the candidate’s rank and interests. Academic appointment and rank are subject to the standard Keck School of Medicine review process.

About the Department

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is a major research university and the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. The Department of Radiation Oncology provides patient care and academic programs across USC and affiliated hospitals and community clinics in the greater Los Angeles region and Orange County. The medical physics group supports clinical operations, research, education, quality, and safety across this network.

Clinical services and equipment vary by site. Across the network, platforms and capabilities include Varian TrueBeam and Halcyon linear accelerators; stereotactic technologies such as HyperArc and ExacTrac; CT simulation and respiratory motion management; Gamma Knife radiosurgery; HDR brachytherapy; and ocular plaque brachytherapy. The department also supports IMRT, VMAT, image-guided radiation therapy, radiosurgery, and SBRT.
