A leading eCommerce retail company with a flagship digital platform that serves millions of customers, this organization is recognized for its scale, technical ambition, and commitment to delivering exceptional online experiences. The web engineering team operates at the intersection of performance, innovation, and user experience — building and refining one of the most visited retail destinations on the web.
The Role
This is a hands-on senior engineering position with a clear path toward technical leadership. You will split your time between writing sophisticated, production-grade code and guiding the quality of work across the team through structured code reviews and mentorship. If you are a seasoned full-stack engineer who is ready to grow beyond individual contribution — without leaving the craft behind — this role was built for you.
What You Will Do
- Design and develop complex full-stack features across a high-traffic eCommerce platform, owning work from database layer through to user interface.
- Architect and optimize back-end services and APIs using Node.js, integrating cleanly with front-end systems.
- Write and tune SQL queries to support efficient, reliable data retrieval and manipulation across large datasets.
- Conduct thorough code reviews that uphold engineering standards and elevate the quality of the broader codebase.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and marketing stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, sharing knowledge and helping the team grow in capability and confidence.
- Contribute to large-scale, high-visibility projects that directly shape the customer experience on a flagship digital platform.
What We Are Looking For
- Strong proficiency in React for building complex user interfaces
- Solid back-end development experience with Node.js
- Hands-on SQL skills for data management and query optimization
- Proven ability to deliver end-to-end full-stack features independently
- Experience conducting code reviews in a collaborative team environment
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with non-engineering stakeholders
The ideal candidate is a self-directed engineer who has spent the better part of a decade working across the full stack and is equally comfortable reasoning about database performance as they are crafting polished front-end interactions. You have moved past needing close direction on complex problems and take genuine ownership of the work you ship. Your experience with code reviews reflects not just technical depth, but an ability to communicate clearly and constructively — a quality that will matter as much as your coding ability in this role.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience formally mentoring or leading junior developers
- A demonstrated trajectory toward technical leadership within a previous team
- Familiarity with large-scale eCommerce or high-traffic web environments
Candidates who have already stepped into informal or formal leadership — whether as a tech lead, senior reviewer, or mentor — will find this role a natural next chapter. That said, we are equally open to engineers who have the instincts and appetite for leadership and are looking for the right environment to grow into it. What matters most is that you bring both the technical credibility to earn the team's respect and the communication skills to help others do their best work.
What We Offer
This position is fully on-site in Midtown Manhattan, placing you at the center of a collaborative, high-performing engineering team. You will work on meaningful, large-scale challenges with real visibility — not maintenance tickets on a forgotten codebase. For the right engineer, this role offers a genuine and supported path into technical leadership, with the backing of an established organization that values both craft and career growth.
