POSITION SUMMARY

To provide a wide variety of highly responsible and complex testing duties related to proctoring, training, and processes for students requiring accommodations. Exercise a high level of discretion to ensure that students with disabilities are provided with the appropriate approved accommodation(s) and testing tools needed to test successfully. Ability to provide ongoing support to students with testing accommodations, assistive technology, and alternate format materials to promote equity, inclusive practices, universal design, and accessibility. Provide professional, effective, and efficient customer service assistance to students, faculty, college personnel, community members, and testing vendors. Serve as primary point of contact for Testing Services and Disability Services, ensuring effective communication and student/staff support. Ability to quickly learn and interpret policies and procedures related to the Department, College Systems. Must have working knowledge of all applicable laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504, and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Serve as department lead for all students and community testers with approved testing accommodations, ensuring they have the appropriate assistive technology, private testing rooms, text reader/scribe, and other testing tools needed to test successfully. Provide students with disabilities general assistance, including answering inquiries, providing information, referrals, and scheduling testing appointments as needed.

2. Communicate with Disability Services and/or testing vendors to ensure all testing accommodations are submitted correctly for each student and/or community member exam including use of private testing rooms and additional testing software. Address tester inquiries and concerns and provide Testing Services staff with support and information needed to proctor accommodated exams.

3. Administer and proctor a variety of tests, while maintaining test security and confidentiality of all testing materials and results. Maintain testing documentation and materials, and complete data entry per Testing Services procedures. Proctoring duties may take place at any Testing Services location, remotely, or at a District 525 high school.

4. Provide exceptional customer service and user support to all visitors including students, faculty, staff, and community members.

5. Troubleshoot testing issues for JJC staff, faculty, students, and community testers. Serve as first point of contact to work with IT and Manager to maintain/ update testing software/equipment at assigned testing center(s). Keep abreast of technical developments relating to testing operations and assistive technology; applicable laws and regulations including but not limited to ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act; as well as best practices pertaining to students with disabilities in higher education.

6. Assist with professional development and training of new/existing staff to ensure test administration consistency and compliance with National College Testing Association (NCTA) best practices and topics related to testing accommodations.

7. Participate in internal (i.e. Disability Services) and external (i.e. Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD)) professional development to subsequently create and deliver training opportunities to Testing Services staff and other college stakeholders.

8. Maintain test scheduling software, including student appointments, assigned testing accommodations, course information, testing site, and testing traffic to maximize testing opportunities while meeting student and community member testing needs.

9. Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and training as may be required. Meet regularly with Testing Services and Disability Services staff to update testing procedures, student and staff communication, and trainings related to serving students with disabilities within testing centers.

10. Prepare and organize various reports, survey results, scheduling data, records, and files.

11. Update appropriate communication pieces including training materials, interpretation guides, directional videos, contact lists, available assistive technology, updates in Disability Services intake procedures, department chat, webpages, physical spaces, etc. Provide recommendations to Manager to ensure physical and electronic spaces and artifacts are ADA compliant.

12. Represent Testing Services as requested by the Manager.

13. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Three (3) years of progressively responsible training experience.

3. Two (2) years of related testing/monitoring experience and experience working directly with individuals with disabilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

4. Extensive personal computer skills and a thorough knowledge of several software applications including Microsoft Office, email, and Internet.

5. Attentiveness to detail, ability to enter data accurately, strong organizational skills, initiative, and multitasking ability.

6. Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism, discretion, and impartiality.

7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and abide by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the American with Disabilities Act privacy guidelines for data and information sharing.

8. Strong verbal and written communication skills, customer service skills, and ability and willingness to work cooperatively with a diverse population.

9. Ability to travel between campus locations and to community events.

10. Ability to work independently at all JJC locations and remotely.

11. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Associate's degree.

2. Experience working in a community college environment, specifically within testing and disability service areas.

3. Working knowledge of assistive technology. Experience with college student databases or Enterprise Planning Systems (ERP).

4. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.

5. Demonstrated multicultural competence.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1. Normal office physical demands.

2. Ability to travel between campus locations and to and from community events.

3. Ability to remain calm and organized when testing traffic increases.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Duties are performed indoors in the usual office or school environment.

WORKING SCHEDULE

Schedule varies depending on department needs. Testing Services hours encompassing multiple locations are as follows:

  • Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-8:00pm

  • Friday: 8:00am-4:30pm

  • Saturday: 8:00am-12:00pm (Currently closed on Fridays and Saturdays during the summer)
