Summary:
The Eligibility Specialist obtains detailed personal, financial and asset information to determine if patient qualifies for one of the Medicaid/SSI programs. Coordinates and facilitates the Medicaid application for the purpose of attaining reimbursement for services provided by UNC Lenoir Health Care to reduce bad debt and creating better access to care for recipients.

Responsibilities:
Collaborates with patients and families, Department of Social Services, State Agencies, Attorneys, and Government Agencies in a professional manner and following the Standards of Behavior guide by UNC Lenoir Health Care.

EDUCATION

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related experience in a social services or healthcare organization is required.
LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
  • None.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
  • Analytical, Customer Service, Direct Patient/Family Interaction/ Hospital/Healthcare Experience, Interpersonal Skills, Report Preparation, Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is desirable.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Patient and Family contact either in person or by phone. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Subject to many interruptions. Work may be stressful at times due to multiple calls and inquiries. May represent hospital in court proceedings
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Occasionally walking, lifting, carrying, standing. If necessary, traveling to patient's residents or to Department of Social Services. Required to view computer monitor for extended periods of time.
