FARO is seeking a Machinist III in the Lake Mary, FL area to produce prototype hardware for the next generation of our metrology products. The new hire will work on the mechanical engineering team to machine and fabricate complex parts and assemblies to exacting tolerances in support of engineering projects.

How you will make a difference:
Work independently from diagrams, sketches, blueprints, samples, schematics and other written and verbal instructions.
Plan and perform complex machining operations involved in the machining of any range of prototype parts to meet exacting specifications. Inspect blueprints for correct tolerances and fits to mating parts. Determine sequence of operation and select, material, tooling and equipment required. Set up computerized and manual machine tools, selecting tools, fixtures, speeds and feeds to meet and hold close tolerances and surface finish to produce desired results.
Generate CNC programs for CNC mill and CNC lathe from solid models and engineering prints.
Operate mill, lathe, drill or other machine tools to cut off, machine surfaces, bore, drill, ream, tap or otherwise process any range of varying materials to precise specifications.
Inspect conformity of parts at specified intervals to determine accuracy and compliance with engineering requirements.
Assist to design and machine fixtures to specification for any assembly or test applications.
Perform minor repairs and conduct preventative maintenance on machinery in machine shop. Repair other machinery as requested.
Anticipate material needs and generate requisitions for the purchase of materials, tooling and supplies as required to manufacture parts, maintain and operate machine shop.
Assist in the design, fabrication, and assembly of R&D Test Fixtures.
Assist in performing R&D tests and related data collection.
Maintain safe and clean work areas and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules.
Comply with all company policies including the Employee Handbook



This position requires:
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and 8 years of experience as a machinist.
Preference towards an Associate's degree in Machining Technology or equivalent trade school with a minimum of 5 years of machining experience.



Technical Skills:
Operate hand tools, power tools, machining equipment including mill, CNC lathe, CNC mill, drills, dremel, shear, brake, grinder, belt/disk sander in fabrication of precision components
Operate precision measurement devices, micrometers, calipers and gauges to verify part conformance
Ability to read and work from detailed mechanical drawings including an understanding of ASME Y14.5M Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standard
Program CNC equipment from solid models using SurfCAM or similar CAM software
Proficient with Haas machine controls
Proficient writing G code at the machine
Computer proficiency including MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook email
Proficient knowledge of arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, and algebraic math.
Basic understanding of metallurgical principles and ability to machine parts from a variety of materials
Excellent communication skills and the desire to work in an engineering team environment



Bonus Skills:
Proficiency with Solidworks 3D modeling software to make minor modifications to designs
Ability to evaluate tolerance stack ups
