Histotechnician II

Summary The purpose of a Histotechnician is to assist in accessioning and proper processing of surgical specimens to preserve the tissue morphology and cell structure. Prepares quality and representative tissue sections on glass slides for microscopic evaluation and performs special stains, including immunohistochemical (IHC) procedures as requested by the pathologist. Responsibilities License Requirements: N/A • Certification Requirements: ASCP (preferred) or eligible • Age Specific Care Provided For: N/A • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following: ••• Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel ••• Microsoft Outlook ••• Meditech (if applicable to position) ••• Epic (if applicable to position) ••• Performance Manager/NetLearning ••• Laboratory Information System, such as EPIC Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public. Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions. • Other Requirements: Working knowledge of Special Stains/IHC Technique Performs frozen sections Requirements EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE * Education and Work Experience: * Successful completion of Histotechnician Program from a NAACLS accredited School; or an Associate Degree and training at a hospital and met ASCP eligibility requirements for certification; or ASCP certified. 2 years experience in Histology preferred.
