Job Description

The Department of Student Development (SD) in the College of Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for a Lecturer position. Candidates with distinguished professional experience may be eligible for the title of Professor of Practice. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with a preferred start date of September 1, 2024.

We are seeking a colleague who is excited about collaboratively engaging in an effective training program that prepares PreK-12 school counseling practitioners, and who is dedicated to social justice work in school counseling contexts.

The position includes teaching a 3/4 load, with courses in the School Counselor Education licensure program and the undergraduate major in Community Education and Social Change, with the exact balance depending on candidate expertise and interest as well as department need. An additional course release is an option if a candidate is interested in being the licensure coordinator for the program.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications:

  • M.Ed. and Ed.S./CAGS in School Counseling.
  • Clinical supervision experience and related training, ideally in a school setting.
  • Experience in university teaching and/or teaching assistantship(s) in counselor education and/or experience leading and implementing professional development and training in school counseling.
  • Dedication to and skills in social justice-oriented pedagogical practices that include ongoing awareness of one's own identities and positions in the classroom, and knowledge of how to engage in dialogue with students about power and privilege in school counseling practice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to implement a high-quality licensure program.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to supporting and implementing evidence-based educational practices as well as inclusive pedagogy.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited institution, or exempted according to CACREP guidelines, or a related degree.

Additional Information

The initial appointment is for two years. Reappointments are contingent upon the availability of funding.
