The Programs in Physical Therapy, Columbia University (Columbia) welcomes applications for a full-time (12-Month) faculty position with emphasis on teaching in the pediatric curriculum of the entry level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. Columbia is a research-one institution with a strong academic and clinical environment. The 3-year curriculum leading to the DPT degree has an illustrious history since the Program's inception in 1942. The Programs in Physical Therapy
The Programs are located within the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S), Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) in Washington Heights, New York City and consists of the health science schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Public Health and Nursing. The 16 full-time faculty are nationally and internationally recognized in varied areas of clinical and research expertise. Our adjunct faculty of academicians, scholars and clinicians from NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP), Weill Cornell Medicine affiliates, and the New York City environs, regularly contribute to the DPT program. The Columbia Programs in Physical Therapy also consist of a Clinical Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Performing Arts Fellowship, Doctor of Education in Movement Science (Physical Therapy) joint program with Teachers College, and three physical therapy Faculty Practices.
Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will primarily teach in the pediatric courses addressing evidence-based physical therapy management. The candidate will participate in program, university, interprofessional, special population and community professional service. In addition, the candidate will engage in student mentoring and advisement, and student-directed research.
Research Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to build research capacity and expertise in PT rehabilitation, and have an active research agenda. The candidate will be expected to actively seek internal or external funding and enhance the didactic and clinical research education/mentorship to DPT and post-professional terminal degree students. Additionally, the candidate would explore opportunities to utilize our interprofessional research laboratory and collaborate with faculty colleagues across the CUIMC campus.
Clinical Responsibilities
Candidates must fulfill requirements for clinical credentialling at NYP/CUIMC. Opportunities exist for clinical teaching or practice at NYP/CUIMC and/or the Columbia University Faculty Practices/ColumbiaDoctors.
- Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree (DPT) required, terminal academic doctorate degree (PhD, EdD, DSc or equivalent) preferred
- A minimum of five years clinical experience within pediatrics
- Board certification as a pediatric clinical specialist (PCS)
- Teaching and mentoring experience
- A scholarly record
A candidate with a clinical doctorate and PCS certification or who has extensive clinical experience with the pediatric population, and is currently pursuing a terminal academic doctoral degree may be considered.
Applicants must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy in New York.
