Job Summary Fishbeck is seeking a Wetland Scientist in one of our central and SE Michigan offices to provide ecological consulting services in support of environmental and civil engineering projects. Responsibilities include wetland delineation, permitting, and mitigation; vegetation monitoring and characterization; threatened and endangered species evaluations; tree surveys; and report preparation. Experience in preparation of NEPA documents, marketing, and proposal preparation is desirable. This position requires occasional travel with a mix of field and office responsibilities. Primary Functions
- Conduct wetland delineations and site assessments, with respect to soil, vegetation, and hydrology characterization.
- Perform threatened and endangered species evaluations and tree surveys.
- Determine and fulfill permitting requirements for local, state, and federal agencies.
- Perform desktop research, conduct field visits, coordinate with regulatory agencies, and prepare documentation for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) clearance documents.
- Prepare proposals, work plans, and technical reports.
- Manage budgets and project schedules.
- Travel to project sites around the state with occasional overnight stays.
- May assist other environmental division field services.
- 5+ years' experience working in wetland delineation, botany, or similar environmental consulting field.
- Working knowledge of wetland delineation techniques.
- Strong field botany skills with experience in local plant identification.
- Experience with threatened and endangered species evaluations and NEPA assessments.
- Aptitude for technical writing.
- Good communicator, both verbal and written.
- Organized, with the ability to balance multiple projects with sensitivity to schedule and budget.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products and other common computer programs.
