Job Summary:
The RN Manager, Medical/Surgical is responsible for the management of patient care units, ensuring the delivery of quality patient-centered care. Collaborating with the healthcare team, this role involves strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, clinical practice oversight, quality improvement, leadership, and financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Communication: Utilize established communication channels to share information, receive feedback, and report problems. Build credibility with physicians, facilitate consensus building, and create a shared vision and goals. Ensure clear and consistent communication of project goals, scope, status, and strategic decisions.
  2. Clinical Practice: Act as an expert resource for staff, analyze and evaluate nursing practice, and apply knowledge to develop standards of care. Direct the development of competencies, maintain personal and professional growth, and evaluate patient care delivery models. Ensure safe and therapeutic environments, and support the development and implementation of a patient safety program.
  3. Quality Improvement: Articulate the organization's performance improvement program and goals, develop and maintain quality monitoring processes, and formulate unit goals reflective of measurable objectives. Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and support the quality expert role on the unit.
  4. Leadership: Recruit, select, retain, coach, mentor, and counsel personnel. Facilitate inter-departmental relationships, demonstrate critical thinking and evidence-based practice, and develop and support departmental partnerships. Ensure staff compliance with mandatory education and facilitate a culture of creative thinking and change.
  5. Financial Management: Develop and submit unit budgets, educate team members on financial implications, and manage within authorized budgets. Identify, evaluate, and implement overall cost-effectiveness in the unit.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience as an RN, with at least two (2) years in a leadership role in the healthcare field.
  • Education: BSN or health-related bachelor's degree.
  • License, Certification, Registration: Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided), Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum four (4) years of previous experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated knowledge in the area of clinical expertise.
  • Master's degree.
Non-negotiable Requirements:
  1. Minimum five (5) years of RN clinical experience, with at least two (2) years in a leadership role in the healthcare field.
  2. BSN or health-related bachelor's degree.
  3. Registered Nurse License (Oregon), Basic Life Support certification within 1 month of hire.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Minimum two (2) years of Critical Care experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years of previous management experience in a similar role or in an acute care setting.
  • Certification in specialization (CNOR, CPAN, etc).
