Department Overview

PG&E's Strategy team leads the development and facilitation of True North Strategy, co-creates and supports strategy and policy initiatives related to Energy System Strategies, leads Partner of Choice workstreams, and incubates emerging business opportunities. With PG&E's core values of serving our planet and delivering for our hometowns at heart, the team assesses cross-functional and line of business specific industry trends and opportunities, provides internal consulting to support line of business strategy development and performance improvement, and leads high-profile utility initiatives.

Position Summary

The Expert Strategic Analyst is responsible for owning and supporting several work streams and analysis projects within the Strategic Development's Partner of Choice initiative. This initiative is focused on how PG&E can better serve its customers, business partners, and communities through an improved customer experience, investment planning efforts, and research into new ways of partnering with customers to better serve them. The scope of this role is to provide economic, financial, and business modeling analytical support. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal departments, regulatory, and utility industry peers to influence the company's current and future priorities. The ideal candidate will be given growth opportunities to lead substantial areas of work and collaborate with senior leadership in which one will learn quickly by doing, be comfortable operating flexibly amid shifting scopes and projects, and multitask and manage conflicting priorities effectively.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $118,000

Bay Area Maximum: $188,000

&/OR

California Minimum: $112,000

California Maximum: $179,000

Job Responsibilities

  • Research key areas for PG&E and our customers and use this deep understanding to develop and pilot innovative partnership solutions for our hometowns
  • Support financial modeling for projects, including the preparation of reports and recommendations to enable our senior leadership to make informed decisions and adjust strategies
  • Provide supporting technical quantitative and qualitative analysis to support the design, test and evaluation of strategy initiatives and projects
  • Help develop communications materials to engage PG&E leadership, internal program management teams and external stakeholders in project objectives and learnings
  • Aid in the development of proof-of-concepts, demonstrations and pilots that showcase and test a variety of potential innovative solutions
  • Work with key stakeholders to support project objectives, execute strategy, and disseminate learnings
  • Coordinate meetings and engage stakeholders - drive project execution across internal stakeholders, key partners, and end-users
  • Input data into and extract information from various information systems and databases
  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis as requested to identify patterns and link outcomes to drivers
  • Create and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and identify performance trends, risks, and opportunities
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Policy, Business, Finance, Sociology, Engineering, Physics or other related fields or equivalent work experience
  • 6 or more years of relevant experience in Utility Operations, Business Finance, Program Management, and/or Account Management
  • Ability to use various software tools, including models, spreadsheets, and databases, to perform analysis and compellingly communicate findings
  • Experience working with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

Desired:

  • Advanced degree in energy policy, public policy, social sciences, or engineering
  • Analytically minded and organized, with background of financial and economic analyses with experience building financial models
  • Self-motivated with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience working with cross-functional teams, including accounting, legal, finance and engineering teams, to achieve common objectives
  • Understanding of electric system operations and engineering principles
  • Previous experience with or knowledge of policy and technical structure of energy utilities
  • Work at electric or natural gas utilities, independent power producers, wholesale energy market participants, regulatory agencies, consulting firms, or similar organizations
