The School of Professional Studies (SPS) at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time position at the Associate Professor of Professional Practice or Professor of Professional Practice level to teach in the MS Program in Construction Administration. This position will begin on July 1, 2024, and is a full-time appointment with a multi-year renewal contingent on successful review.

We seek high-quality candidates with a graduate degree in business, finance, law, real estate, architecture, engineering or other areas related to construction management. Experience mentoring students on consulting projects, where students solve real-world challenges with industry partners, is a plus. The ability to form partnerships and collaborations with industry stakeholders to develop applied research and foster entrepreneurial ideas is also welcome.

This position will involve regular teaching in the program's core and elective courses. The successful candidate will teach two courses in both the fall and spring semesters (i.e., a 2:2 course load) related to construction administration in one or more of the following areas: Construction Project Management, Capstone, Scheduling, Estimating, and Elementals of Construction. The Associate Professor of Professional Practice/Professor of Professional Practice will also participate in instructional design, student mentoring, and overall development of the Construction Administration program.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the successful candidate may at some point have the opportunity to serve as the program's director to lead programmatic efforts and strategic planning. Program director responsibilities include but are not limited to, recruiting faculty and staff, budgeting and planning, student mentoring, and curriculum design.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a doctoral or terminal degree in business, finance, law, real estate, architecture, engineering or other areas related to construction management. All applicants must have a BA/BS.
  • Possess 10 years of professional practice in a change management setting, including leadership roles directing departments or organizations.
  • Exhibit a commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, instructional design, and professional practice and/or scholarship.

Candidates at the rank of Professor of Professional Practice are expected to have substantial experience and accomplishments, a superlative teaching record, and documented evidence of excellence in carrying out administrative or other department responsibilities.

Candidates at the rank of Associate Professor of Professional Practice are expected to have teaching experience, documented evidence of excellence, and evidence of professional growth and activity in the given field.
