Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics invites applicants for a senior level research position. Candidates should have strong scientific and postdoctoral experience.

The Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for high-throughput cloning, protein expression and purification for the research groups of Drs. Marks, Mancia, Colecraft & Clarke Labs within the Department of Physiology. The Associate Research Scientist will generate recombinant proteins for structural, biochemical and biophysical experiments, on demand with a particular emphasis on integral membrane proteins. Associate Research Scientist will utilize both bacterial and eukaryotic expression systems such as E. coli, and baculovirus-infected insect cells. Also, focus on the generation and production of recombinant antibody fragments derived from synthetic libraries for a wide range of applications ranging from structural biology to in-cell physiology and biophysics.

The Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics is a vibrant, growing department that seeks to provide the most exciting environment for cutting edge science. The faculty include a Nobel Laureate. The Department also includes five members of the National Academy of Sciences, four members of the National Academy of Medicine and four members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. There are several major areas of focus in the Department: membrane proteins and ion channels biology; cardiovascular biology; structural biology; endocrinology, metabolism, pulmonary and bone biology. Through the Ph.D. graduate program and postdoctoral training, the faculty provide a rich environment for outstanding candidates. Faculty in the Department are most proud of recent successes in our ongoing efforts to learn about and eventually overcome diseases that afflict millions of patients, including advances in understanding the molecular basis of schizophrenia, genetic characterizations of osteoblast induced leukemias, viral infections, and new treatments for heart disease including coronary artery stent restenosis, heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias.


Minimum Degree Required: PhD

Minimum Qualifications: PhD or MD, plus 2 to 3 years of postdoctoral research experience
