TITLE: Evening Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Youth Service Department

PROGRAM(S): Rutgers Community Center - 200 Madison Street New York NY 10002
SALARY: $21-23 Per Hour
REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director

SCHEDULE: School Year: Mon-Fri: 6pm-10pm/ Saturday: 10am-5pm. This position is performance based and is also contingent on funding availability.

DATES: December 2023

JOB SUMMARY: As part of our Youth Services Department's vision: all Youth Services Staff will assist promoting growth, leadership and positive self-image in all young people at all of our Grand Street Settlement sites. Assistant Supervisor during the summer will promote and develop a safe and engaging learning environment for youth. Recreational activities, team building activities/games, theme based lessons, and trips are integral parts of summer day camp activities.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Associate Degree required or higher
  • Previous youth based/school experience
  • Proven ability to work with various age groups
  • Previous experience working with diverse people
  • Good conflict mediation and public relations skills
  • Strong planning and organizational skills; detail-oriented
  • Strong time-management skills; ability to handle simultaneous assignments with a high degree of accuracy, and meet deadlines in a high pressure environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal guidance
  • Can-do attitude and strives to do more for a growing team
  • Ability to work independently, assesses priorities, and take initiative
  • Capacity to thrive under pressure while working on multiple tasks and projects
  • A team player with demonstrated commitment to working with urban youth and young adults from an asset-based perspective
  • Ability to set up and maintain work environment that challenges gender stereotypes and is LGBTQIA+- friendly
  • Have skills in experiential learning and group facilitation with youth
  • Must be flexible, cooperative and willing to work in a team environment
  • Must obtain NYC Dept. of Health fingerprint clearance and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance ($25)
  • Must have NYS Food Handler's Certificate
  • Must be CPR and Advanced First Aid Certified
  • Bilingual preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Program Director, ensure the following:

Program & Community Development:
  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to full-time and part-time program staff
  • Provide direct/indirect supervision of all program staff and delivery of services on a day-to-day basis, in
    order to ensure that all goals, targets, and performance outcomes are met on a daily/weekly/monthly basis
  • Responsible for participant recruitment and retention strategies
  • Serves as the primary liaison for school administration, parents and other community entities and constituencies
  • Work with program staff to improve job performance through ongoing mentoring and coaching, and monthly staff development
  • Set, communicate and enforce clear standards for quality youth development programming
  • Participate in ongoing efforts to advocate for program needs via community coalition building and via administering feedback surveys and program assessments
  • Ensure effective outreach to hard-to-reach youth and young adults who do not participate in afterschool or community center programs.
  • Be a credible messenger with strong community connections, a good grasp of neighborhood dynamics
  • Address conflicts that have potential to undermine community cohesion and trigger violent clashes
  • Refer participants and their families to relevant community resources
  • Monitor students' success at afterschool program sites
  • Assist students with resume writing, interviewing skills, and career choices
  • Plan and facilitate curriculum based activities for youth that develop their social, emotional and/or academic skills
  • Attend any Grand Street Settlement staff meetings and facilitate trainings for Youth Service Department staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the program supervisors
  • Supervise, support, and assist maintenance and security staffs
  • Keep abreast of what is going on in the program each day
  • Manage registration forms and process identification cards for program participants, and support in inputting of data into DYCD online
  • Other duties as assigned
