REGISTERED NURSE, WEBSTER HOUSE

The Webster House is a separate handicapped accessible equipped home on our New Britain campus serving both boys and girls ages 12 until 21 who struggle with behavioral health issues and co-occurring complex physical health needs. Each youth receives individualized clinical and medical treatment from a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team including a Licensed Clinical Coordinator, Primary Therapist, Psychiatrist, Pediatrician, 24-hour Registered Nursing staff, a Registered Dietitian, and well trained milieu staff.
Treatment services include:
Weekly individual therapy, clinical group therapy, family therapy, medical group facilitated by registered nurses, independent living skills groups run by LIST trained staff, daily therapeutic recreational activities on campus and in the community, weekly consultation with the agency's registered dietician, coordination of primary and specialty care, daily medical assessment and individualized self-management skill building by our registered nursing staff.
Webster House provides a caring and supportive environment where both behavioral and medical health can be treated as part of an integrated system of care. Working collaboratively with the young person's family or other permanency resource, our goal is the successful transition of our youth home with their families, to another permanency resource or to their next step towards independence.
Common Physical/Medical Conditions Treated: Type I and II Diabetes, Pre-diabetes, Obesity, Renal Failure, Cerebral Palsy, Seizure Disorders, Autism, Prader Willi Syndrome and other genetic conditions.
Typical activities:
l. Identifies minor illnesses and injuries; provides treatment, medication or medical care within parameters set forth by
the agency's physicians.
2. Refers serious or specialized problems to proper medical resources.
3. Administers medication/medication training and supervises medical treatments and use of medications by child development staff for all assigned programs.
4. Coordinates activities of all medical related consultants.
5. Maintains a treatment room for examination and treatment purposes; purchases and dispenses health care supplies.
6. Prepares and maintains permanent medical records, including identified illnesses, referrals made, prescription medications and treatment ordered.
7. Maintains a variety of records concerning clients in treatment, including immunizations, physical examinations, health insurance identifications and medical emergency cards.
8. Acts as liaison between treatment staff and the medical community.
9. Confers with treatment team members or parents/guardians regarding medical issues of client's treatment as necessary.
10. Provides in-service education on medical concerns, as appropriate.
11. Consults with Food Services and consulting dietitian on dietary and nutritional matters.
12. Provides health services for on-duty staff members as appropriate; maintains appropriate records; assists in preparation
of claim reports as required in cases of work-related injuries.
13. Provides counseling for clients with problems of a medical or sexual nature when appropriate.
14. Monitors the confidentiality and proper control of all nursing records.
15. Provides additional client related services as appropriate or assigned.
Education/Experience/Other requirements:
Registered Nurse (RN) with current CT license; 2-4 years' experience in social services setting preferred. Must maintain certification in CPR/First Aid, and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). Must have a valid driver's license.
