Job Description:
The DMS Instructor works under the direction of the Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography to deliver high-quality instruction and support to students enrolled in the DMS program. This role involves teaching courses, developing instructional materials, and providing guidance to students to ensure successful completion of the program. The DMS Instructor plays a vital role in the education and preparation of future diagnostic medical sonographers, contributing to the success and excellence of the program by delivering high-quality instruction and support to students.

Key Responsibilities:
Course Instruction:
  • Deliver lectures, laboratory sessions, and hands-on training in diagnostic medical sonography techniques and procedures.
  • Utilize effective instructional methods and resources to enhance student learning outcomes.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to facilitate skill development and mastery of course content.

Curriculum Development:
  • Assisted in developing and refining instructional curriculum and materials to align with program objectives and accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Diagnostic Medical Sonography to ensure the curriculum meets industry standards and best practices.

Student Support:
  • Provide academic advising and support to students throughout their educational journey in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment conducive to student success and retention.
  • Facilitate student engagement and participation in classroom activities and clinical experiences.

Program Compliance:
  • Adhere to accreditation standards set forth by the Accreditation for Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) and the Council on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and evaluations to ensure program compliance.

Professional Development:
  • Stay abreast of advancements and changes in diagnostic medical sonography through continuing education and professional development activities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, workshops, and conferences to enhance teaching effectiveness and contribute to program improvement.

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree or certification in diagnostic medical sonography or a related field is required.
  • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Abdomen Extended and OB/GYN required.
  • Minimum of 2 years or 4000 documented hours of clinical experience in diagnostic medical sonography.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues, students, and industry partners.

General Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate teaching skills and knowledge.
  • Write unit lesson plans, daily lesson plans, and various written and performance assessments.
  • Teach assigned courses with demonstrated competency in multiple instructional delivery methods and focus on practical assessment.
  • Maintain discipline and enforce rules of conduct and behavior following school policy.
  • Teach all standards and requirements outlined in the individual course syllabi and program approval.
  • Oversee and maintain the safety of the students and the working environment.
  • Serve as a model for demonstrating correct human relations skills for students to emulate.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and overall performance, using appropriate software systems used by the institution.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory for program equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork.
  • Participate in advisory committee meetings.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Communicate with the program coordinator about department needs.
  • Obtain all required instructor credentials and renew them as needed.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings.
  • Promote the program.
  • Promote the College.
