In the thick of this excellence is our team of Perfusionists who are the heart of the operation here at Michigan Medicine. As our department continues to grow, we invite you to grow with us We participate in over 2000 surgical procedures each year.
The Perfusionist will be responsible for:
* Primarily works in the cardiac surgery operating room to provide cardiopulmonary bypass support.
* Responsible for appropriate selection of equipment and techniques to be used, and to ensure the safe management of physiologic functions.
* Follows established perfusion protocols relating to patient demographics, surgical procedure, and situation.
* Monitoring and controlling extracorporeal perfusion equipment during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery and related procedures on patients of all ages, while under the direction of a physician and in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of practice.
* Administering prescription drugs, blood products and anesthetic agents through the extracorporeal circuit and inducing specified physiologic conditions, such as hypothermia and circulatory arrest, as ordered by a physician.
* Assisting with inventory management.
* Assisting with assigned projects in a collaborative cardiovascular team.

Required Qualifications*
* Graduated from an accredited Perfusion Training Program, with a Master?s or Bachelor?s degree preferred.
* Analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experienced-based knowledge.
* The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
* Call commitment with a 30-minute response rate.
Certified Perfusionist role:
* Current certification as a Clinical Perfusionist by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.
Desired Qualifications*
* Familiarity with the use of Centrifugal Pumps, Ventricular Assist Devices, and ECMO.
* Knowledge of Adult and Pediatric clinical perfusion; experience or interest in pediatrics is desired.
* Knowledge of perfusion practices and equipment. Knowledge of surgical procedures and terminology.
* Strong interpersonal/human relations skills.
* Ability to work under stressful situations.
* Ability to exercise sound judgment in complex situations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to be able to work unpredictable hours, rotating shifts and on-call schedule.
Work Schedule
Full Time, 40hrs, with on-call.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
