Summary:

Identify, assess and manage disorders of the auditory, balance and other neural systems according to the principles and practices of Audiology in all areas of the hospital system including but not limited to : Acute care, Outpatient and In-patient(CMR).

Education:

Graduate of an accredited AuD/Masters Degree program in Audiology. New graduates will be considered.

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Current LA. State license for Audiology is required. Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association is preferred.

Responsibilities:

1. Perform activities that identify, assess, diagnose, manage, and interpret test results related to disorders of hearing, balance, and other neural systems.

2. Perform otoscopic examination and external ear canal management for removal of cerumen in order to evaluate hearing or balance, make ear impressions, fit hearing protection or prosthetic devices, monitor the continuous use of hearing aids.

3. Conduct and interpret behavioral, electroacoustic, or electrophysiologic methods used to assess hearing, balance, and neural system function.

4. Evaluate and manage children and adults with auditory processing disorders.

5. Train and supervise technicians to conduct newborn hearing screening. Perform newborn hearing screen. Coordinate the follow-up for all newborns that fail the screen or who require further follow-up due to risk factors for progressive hearing loss.

6. Measure and interpret sensory and motor evoked potentials, electronystagmography/videonystagmographt, and other electrodiagnostic tests for purposes of neurophysiologic intraoperative monitoring and cranial nerve assessment.

7. Provide consultation to educators as members of interdisciplinary team about communication management, educational implications of hearing loss, educational programming, classroom acoustics, and large-area amplification systems for children with hearing loss.

8. Provide prevention of hearing loss and conservation of hearing function by designing, implementing, and coordinating occupational, school, and community hearing conservation and identification programs.

9. Design and conduct of basic and applied audiologic research to increase the knowledge base, to develop new methods and programs, and to determine the efficacy of assessment and treatment paradigms; dissemination of research findings to other professionals and to the public.

10. Provide measurement of functional outcomes, consumer satisfaction, effectiveness, efficiency, and cost-benefit of practices and programs to maintain and improve the quality of audiological services.

11. Provide administration and supervision of professional and technical personnel who provide support functions to the practice of audiology.

12. Provide screening of speech-language, use of sign language (e.g.,American Sign Language and cued speech), and other factors affecting communication function for the purposes of an audiologic evaluation and/or initial identification of individuals with other communication disorders.

13. Provide consultation about accessibility for persons with hearing aids, education, and counseling.

14. Serve as a liaison for the consumer, family, and agencies in order to monitor audiologic status and management and to make recommendations about educational and vocational programming.

15. Participation in the development of professional and technical standards.

16. Prepare written documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and other such reports.

17. Comply with department policies, procedures, objectives, safety, environmental, infection control and quality assurance programs.

18. Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.19. Follows North Oaks Health System's Compliance Program and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
