Sr. AWS Dedicated Cloud Engineer, Mercury ADC Operations

Reston VA United States Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc. Full time
Would you like to implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve the world's most complex technical problems? Do you have a deep passion and desire to engineer and operate the world's largest cloud computing infrastructure to build a better world for future generations?

This is an exciting opportunity to use the latest cloud computing technologies to help U.S. Government agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems.

AWS established a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we are doing with the U.S. Intelligence Community. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them.

The AWS Mercury ADC Operations team is seeking highly motivated engineers who are focused on operational excellence and troubleshooting complex system operations, have a good understanding of Linux, networking and general knowledge of cloud services. We need engineers who understand how to think big, and simplify solutions to complex problems; all the while ensuring that our customers continue to have the best experience possible.

You are able to lead a project, delivering on schedule even when the initial problem is not well defined. You identify when ADC implementations are not highly available, performant, secure, stable, instrumented, maintainable, or have defects. You identify long term or systemic risks and can create both short-term and long-term sustainable mitigations plans. You can evaluate trade-offs in decision making which consider complexity, two-way and one-way doors, and technical risk. You proactively drive preventative measures and resolve, mitigate, or escalate operational concerns in a timely manner. You have a breadth and depth of understanding in relevant industry standard technology areas, for example operating systems, hardware, software, security, or networking. You are an excellent diagnostician, able to drive the most challenging investigations for your team.

We are committed to supporting our new team members through a broad mix of Amazon experience, expertise, and tenures. We celebrate knowledge, sharing, and mentorship

This position requires that the candidate selected must currently possess and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Key job responsibilities
The specific CP ADC Operations responsibilities for this role are:

- Support CP MVP on-call
- Identify and pursue opportunities for operational excellence and automation
- Respond to and resolve MVP customer issues
- Resolve operational tickets
- Support the execution of various campaigns (i.e., blocked software, host patching, etc) in the MVP regions on behalf of CP service teams
- Collaborate with CP service team engineers to build CP services in the MVP regions as part of CP’s effort to bring its stacks to commercial parity
- Support other parity program activities such as data migration, client migration, and cutover on behalf of CP service teams

A day in the life
On a "typical" day, our engineers may dive deep into customer issues, service interdependencies and region specific configurations to find the root of a problem. Engineers also need to be able to investigate why a metric or system variances is trending in the wrong direction, or discuss radical new approaches to automate operational processes. As a member of our team you will join a dedicated group of engineers who provide troubleshooting and operations support, and innovate to automate operational tasks.

About the team
The Mercury ADC Operations team supports customer sign up, bill computation, pricing, metering, discounts, cost insights, security, and fraud prevention services for AWS customers. The Mercury ADC Operations team is focused on enabling AWS as a whole the capability to build, interpret and process trillions of commerce events per day, often bundled with low-latency/real-time analysis to enable security and fraud detection..

Our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here, which is why we aren’t focused on how many hours you spend at work or online. Instead, we’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Annapolis Junction, MD, USA | Herndon, VA, USA
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree, or Cloud+ or GICSP (Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional) or GSEC (GIAC Security Essentials) or SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner)
