CLINICAL NURSE EDUCATOR

- JOB SUMMARY
- The Clinical Nurse Educator/Sepsis Coordinator provides staff development by educating, coaching, and mentoring staff. This position is responsible for orientation, competency completion of all assigned unit staff, and works with medical staff and hospital staff to provide multidisciplinary care to sepsis patients. Provides clinical, professional expertise for patients, families, and staff members. The coordinator develops performance improvement initiatives and integrates research into the clinical setting. Implements and monitors performance improvement measures addressing quality of care issues, care management, and education of staff and patients. Acts as a clinical liaison between physicians, clinical staff and administrative staff. Provides for staff development as an educator, consultant, process change agent, leader and researcher. Works in coordination with medical and nursing.
- JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education and/or experience: Registered Professional Nurse currently licensed in Tennessee or a compact state. BSN and/or specialty certification required with 3 or more year's clinical healthcare experience in an acute care facility, and preferably 1 year teaching experience. National certification in area of clinical expertise preferred. C ertification as BLS, AC LS, and PALS Instructor preferred.
Knowledge: Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, license practical nurse and nursing assistants. Knowledge of and appropriate application of nursing process. Knowledge of infection control procedures, safety precautions, techniques involved in administering routine medications and / or treatments to patients. Knowledge of adult learning principles
Skills: Excellent communication, customer service, active listening skills; Proficient in computer skills, like Microsoft Office
Abilities: Ability to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others. Ability to demonstrate emotional maturity by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively. Ability to conduct needs assessment using a variety of strategic tools. Ability to incorporate principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation and evaluation of education programs. Ability to develop and coordinate education plans to address patient population specific nursing care. Ability to use computer and learn new software programs. Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools. Ability to think critically and problem solve while remaining focused and organized in a stressful and fast paced environment. Ability to work flexible hours and days to meet facility needs.
