Description of Position: The School Psychologists is responsible for supporting students' learning, social development, and mental and behavioral health using problem solving, assessment, data-based decision-making, and the delivery of evidenced-based interventions. School psychologists collaborate and consult with educators, families, and other professionals to help create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data-Based Decision Making and Accountability (50% of time)
  • Provide psychometrically sound educational assessments.
  • Compile Assessment Team data and writes Assessment Team Reports
  • Utilize varied models and methods of assessment data collection for identifying strengths and needs of individual students.
  • Provide guidance and structure around our 504 procedures and policies.
Consultation and Collaboration (45% of time)
  • Oversee the writing of Functional Behavior Assessments, aid in writing of behavior plans and meets with teachers, along with behavior coaches, to explain how to implement them as needed.
  • Provide counseling/therapy to students placed in the Regroup setting.
  • Provide counseling/therapy to students with an IEP when applicable.
  • Serve on IEP committee team meetings as appropriate.
  • Serve on Child Find MET team meetings as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with district behavior coaches when appropriate.
Other Responsibilities (5% of the time)
  • Additional duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.
  • Weekly status report to both the Chief of Student Services and Director of Special Education.
  • Completes required reports by deadlines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid Mississippi license with endorsement as school psychologist (451)
  • At least two years psychometric experience in a school setting
  • PhD in Educational Psychology
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, FERPA and 504 laws.
  • Ability to apply problem solving processes and creative thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student records.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Knowledge of current best practices
  • Ability to work with teachers and students to demonstrate ways of supporting students in the regular classroom as well as in the special education setting.
  • Knowledge of IEP process
