As the Common Hardware Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for manufacturing engineering, reliability engineering, product safety and certification, hardware test engineering, CAD, PDM and PLM process and infrastructure, BOM management and management of offshore engineering. In addition, you will be responsible for developing systems and processes that help scale the company and make it less people-dependent. You will deliver on the company's near-term objectives and ensure that our hardware engineering practices lead to predictability of product success.Accountability (across all products)DfX (Cost, Safety, Reliability, Ergonomics, Aesthetics, Manufacturability, Assembly, Transportability) input to design engineering.BOM and ECO management. Co-owner with IT on CAD, PDM and PLM systems.Safety and other product certifications.Reliability validation and input on corrective actions to engineering.Hardware test engineering (development and testing).ResponsibilitiesBuild and lead the Company’s Common Hardware Engineering team consisting of reliability testing, product safety & certification, hardware testing, and PDM & BOM management, across all hardware product lines.Design and implement reliability test procedures by collaborating with suppliers and product development teams. Monitor progress and facilitate the implementation of improvements into product designs.Drive the certification process for new products and technologies, managing communication and relationships with internal stakeholders and external labs. Ensure product compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.Manage internal cross-functional resources and external sub-contractors in the design, development, and execution of testing procedures to ascertain the Company’s hardware performance and quality.Implement and manage the Company’s CAD and PDM systems, ensuring accurate and organized handling of product life cycle workflows, BOMs, and ECOs process management.Develop and implement strategies for Common Hardware Engineering to achieve the Company’s business goals while ensuring seamless execution of projects within budgets, resources, and timelines.QualificationsBS or higher in ME, EE, or other related engineering disciplines.10+ years of related work experience and engineering leadership, including having scaled products from concept to volume production.Broad, multidisciplinary understanding of hardware product development lifecycle and supply chain management processes.Strong technical background with the ability to grasp and discuss technical concepts with engineering teams; experience in reliability, product safety & certification, PDM & BOM management, and test engineering.Solid engineering background with no requirement for robotics expertise.High level of technical writing proficiency (specs, test plans, reports, white papers, etc.).Experience in the implementation and management of CAD, PDM, and PLM systems for the product development life cycle.Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead initiatives while thriving in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.Experience working with engineering subcontractors, vendors, and global contract manufacturers.Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.Strong ability to multi-task and switch contexts while managing multiple projects simultaneously.Navigate ambiguity in the Company’s direction and with multiple conflicting priorities without impacting the team cadence.Base pay is one element of our Total Rewards package which may also include comprehensive benefits and equity etc., depending on eligibility. The annual base salary range for this position is from $160,000 to $180,000.
