Please Note this is a part-time (less than 20 hours per week) position. The schedule will vary week to week.

POSITION SUMMARY : Under limited supervision, assess, diagnose and treat the health care needs of women utilizing a collaborative, holistic and caring framework that will protect the health of the client/family and community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities listed below are central to the job and the employee must be able to perform each function satisfactorily. (1) Perform appropriate women's health assessments and exams, including but not limited to: annual physical exams, cancer screening, contraceptive counseling, problem visits to include other types of gynecologic problems, performing contraceptive insertions and removals for IUDs and implants, and lab testing.

(2) Document and follow-up on abnormal clinical and/or lab results for quality care and improvement per national clinical guidelines.

(3) Make referrals when existing or medical risk factors are outside standardized procedures/scope of work, practice, or program covered services.

(4) Analyze data to design and develop resources through collaboration with other health and social agencies to assure the availability of comprehensive health services.

(5) Develop and/or arrange educational curricula/programs as needs are identified for programs in Public Health in collaboration with the public health director and nurse program coordinator.

(6) Identify Public Health trends of concern and coordinate with other health care providers and agencies in the community, state and nationally to prevent and improve Public Health.

(7) Lead agency work groups for initiating and maintaining quality of care in programs and interagency work.

(8) Provide expert Public Health nursing consultation in the community.

(9) Represent the local Public Health Department with regional, state, and federal agencies to obtain support with policy/practice and funding to provide quality health care in our community.

(10) Participate with staff in planning, evaluating and delivering services to the community, particularly in the Family Planning Program.

(11) Market Public Health activities and mission through representation at local, regional and state activities.

(12) Mentor/Preceptor for new staff and/or students.

(13) Participate in Departmental emergency preparedness and response activities as needed.

(14) Consult with public health director and/or medical director as needed.

Requirements

(1) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of: public health principles, policies and communicable diseases management; professional nursing principals including physical assessment and pharmacology; Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse Education and skills; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skilled in: strong interpersonal skills; public presentation/communication.

Ability to: develop and organize health programs and services; manage and supervise assisting nursing staff; work independently with minimal or no supervision; communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public.

(2) Experience/Education : Master's degree in Nursing/Advanced Practice Nurse plus five (5) years' nursing experience; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted. Must be board certified in either family practitioner and/or women's health.

(3) Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking : Must be able to write and read; able to hear and see; verbal and public presentation/communication.

(4) Physical Effort/Dexterity : Manual dexterity; ability to drive a car; physically able to attend to client's needs in a variety of settings.

(5) Environmental Factors: Work is generally performed in a clinic setting; increased risk of communicable disease exposure; potential safety issues related to working with high risk clients.

(6) Work Schedule/Characteristics: As needed; clinic schedule and as needed for required training, conferences and public health/marketing activities in the community; respond to emergencies such as natural disasters, pandemics and bioterrorism.

(7) License/Certification Requirements : Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver's license; active and unrestricted Colorado advanced nurse practice licensure; active and unrestricted prescriptive authority, current BLS certification.
