Job Description Summary:

Standardized Patients are trained to act as though they have specific illnesses. They learn the history, body language, physical findings, as well as emotional and personality characteristics that tend to go along with the illness. Throughout the year, they're called upon to play their part in videotaped training sessions that happen at a variety of times within a given week.

Job Description:

Conditions of Employment: Part time w/ a varying schedule M-F 8am to 5 pm

Required Qualifications

Education: GED or High School Equivalent

Work Experience:

* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written as evidenced by application materials


* Experience maintaining confidential information



Preferred Qualifications

Work Experience: Experience in an academic setting

Skills: Ability to work accurately and independently

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

* Keep track of all assigned case dates


* Participate in all trainings assigned (cases, compliance, other)


* Study all facts of the assigned case script, train and preform with accuracy, and be able to take constructive criticism with a positive attitude when asked.


* Call (as soon as possible) if unable to attend a scheduled session


* Arrive 30 minutes prior to scheduled session


* Dress appropriately for each case (casual, dress-up, exam gown, etc.)


* Consistently perform the case in order to ensure each student/resident is seeing the same portrayal of the scenario


* Make adjustments to the way the case is played if requested by faculty or SP staff.


* Remember what each student/resident asked and did during the encounter and record it on the standardized patient checklist accurately.


* Keep all cases and encounters with students/residents confidential


* Other duties

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
