The CZ Biohub Network includes the San Francisco, Chicago, and New York Biohubs as well as the Chan Zuckerberg Imaging Institute. CZI also collaborates with institutional partners like the Kempner Institute for the Study of Natural & Artificial Intelligence at Harvard University. Join us in accelerating science.The OpportunityAs a Senior Software Engineer of the Science Technology Organization, you would be working with a set of highly motivated and talented engineers to build cloud applications on latest technologies that scientists rely on every day in ways that enable them to draw more meaningful conclusions, or biological insights, more quickly. By making our tools, methods, and quality data sets accessible to a diverse set of scientists, clinicians, and patient communities, we contribute to the rate at which biomedical science can understand and advance human health.This role will work with Product Managers, UX Designers/Researchers, Application Scientists and other Engineers to design, build and maintain highly interactive web applications for SciTech products using  modern technologies and architecture design patterns. Responsibilities will span multiple CZI products over time, with the initial work on the Imaging products. Science initiatives include software such as:CryoET Data Portal - The portal provides biologists and developers open access to high-quality, standardized, annotated data they can readily use to retrain or develop new annotation models and algorithmsAcquire - A Python library focusing on high-speed, multi-camera video acquisition for microscopyCZ ID - A web application focused on pinpointing the most relevant pathogenic organisms and providing highly interactive visualizations that accelerate time to results and can be accessed by both experts and non-tech savvy usersCZ CELLxGENE - A rich data platform with interfaces that enable any computational or biological expert to understand the molecular function of cells and tissuesVirtual Cells - A platform for scientists to build, collaborate and contribute to the AI powered virtual cells which would enable scientists to explore the molecular underpinnings of human health and diseasesWhat You'll DoSolve challenging scientific software problems using your engineering skillsBuild interactive data-driven visualization tools for exploring and analyzing large biological imaging datasets that enable AI model developmentPartner with a new AI group to enable and leverage their workUtilize imaging data knowledge and graphics experience to build highly interactive visualizationsPromote engineering excellence through technical leadership, knowledge-sharing and mentorshipWhat You'll Bring6+ years of experience working in software development with a focus on the visualization of large/complex dataExperience building highly interactive UIs for the web using JavaScript (e.g. Google maps)Experience with visualization and graphics libraries/APIs (e.g. WebGL/WebGPU/deck.gl/three.js)Experience building highly performant 2D and 3D visualizations using the GPU and understands how back-end architecture and data structures affect performanceKnowledge of large, cloud-based file formats used in the Imaging domain (e.g zarr)Internal drive for continuous learning and teaching othersCompensationThe Redwood City, CA base pay range for this role is $190,000-$285,000. New hires are typically hired into the lower portion of the range, enabling employee growth in the range over time. Actual placement in range is based on job-related skills and experience, as evaluated throughout the interview process. Pay ranges outside Redwood City are adjusted based on cost of labor in each respective geographical market.
