**Overview**
**General surgery and surgical subspecialty PA: Night Full Time**
**The General surgery and surgical subspecialty Physician Assistant manages the overnight inpatient and operative needs of surgical patients in conjunction with, and under the supervision of an attending physician . The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations which includes the overall management of the orthopedic surgical patient, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic testing, development of appropriate plans of care, therapeutic interventions, and intra operative assistance. They maintain a collaborative work environment that is safe, just, and founded on principles of high reliability and quality outcomes for patients and colleagues. The PA will perform duties in accordance with state and federal regulations as well as network policies, PA scope of practice guidelines, approved clinical privileges** **and the JFKUMC PA policy. The physician assistant reports to the department clinical lead and Director of Advanced Practice Providers, Physician Assistant. Full time includes weekends and holidays on a rotational basis** .
**Responsibilities**
**_1. Obtains a thorough patient history that includes: Determination of their health status and primary care service needs. Analysis of primary symptoms. Assess patient compliance with historical primary care treatment plan if one exists. Complete medical and social history. Performs an appropriate physical examination and recognizes normal and abnormal findings. Records findings of the physical exam in a clear and concise manner using the appropriate format. Connect patient with a primary care physician based on the data gathered in the history and physical examination. Counsel, educate, and instruct patients in specific disease-related and preventative medicine areas._**
**_2. Communicates with assigned Primary Care physician regarding pertinent patient information including but not limited to actual or potential clinical problems. Collaborates with physicians, family members, social workers, community contacts and other members of the health care team in patient care planning._**
**_3. Utilizes assessment skills and collaborates with other disciplines to develop a comprehensive education plan to meet patient/family needs. Utilizes assessment skills and collaborates with other disciplines to develop a comprehensive plan of care that meets patient needs. Incorporates diagnosis, interventions, and expected outcomes. Communicates plans of care with the patient and family. Identifies the patients educational needs based on the assessment of the patient._**
**_4. Understands his/her role as a professional and conduct him/herself in accordance with the same. Seeks out other professionals to network and create positive alliances. Is committed to a positive meaningful interaction with the patients. Will oversee Community Outreach workers, and conduct weekly meetings to discuss patient progress, goals and issues/concerns._**
**_5. Other duties and/or projects as assigned._**

**Qualifications**
**Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:**
**_APN_**
**_1. Masters Degree in Nursing with Advanced Nurse Practitioner credentials from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program required._**
**_PA_**
**_1. Graduate of an accredited PA school_**
**_APN/PA_**
**_1. Demonstrates effective communication and leadership skills including teaching principles, organizational and presentation skills._**
**_2. Computer skills with a working knowledge of electronic medical records required._**
**_3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills._**
**_4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms._**
**_Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:_**
**_1. Acute hospital experience preferred._**
**_2. Ambulatory care experience preferred._**
**_Licenses and Certifications Required:_**
**_1. Advance Practice Nurse License or Physician Assistant License._**
**_2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification._**
**_3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - ACLS_**
**_4. Controlled Dangerous Substances Physician Certification - C.D.S. and D.E.A._**
