Principal Scientist, Purification | Just-Evotec, Redmond, WA | Just is seeking a motivated and creative scientist or engineer who desires a significant opportunity to improve worldwide access to biotherapeutics. As a downstream design scientist/engineer, you will join a fast-paced, collaborative, and multidisciplinary team to develop purification processes for low-cost biotherapeutic manufacturing. Process design at Just-Evotec means exposure to innovative technologies like high throughput automated robotic screening and continuous processing technologies for a first-of-its-kind flexible and configurable manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will have experience in chromatography and filtration theory and operations. Experience with high throughput chromatography screening, chromatography mechanistic modeling, multicolumn chromatography, process modeling and produces characterization is a plus. The ideal candidate has strong written and verbal communications skills, works well independently and in teams, and continually looks for ways to improve processes and technology.Responsibilities:Develop early and late phase purification processes for biotherapeutics manufacturingTechnology development to reduce the cost and improve the efficiency of purification processesTransfer processes to clinical and commercial manufacturing facilitiesDrive technology development projectsParticipation in process and technology development teamsTechnical document authoring including regulatory documentsMentor and manage junior staff (1-3 direct reports)Position Requirements:BS degree in Engineering, Biochemistry or related field and 18+ years of experience, MS with 10+ years of experience or PhD with 7+ years of experienceKnowledgeable in chromatography and filtration theory, downstream development, and scale-up strategyExperience with chromatography operations including using Akta systemsExperience with filtration operation including executing bench-scale dead-end filtration, viral filtration, and UF/DFComfort with being functional area lead on integrated project teamsExcellent experimental design and analysis skillsDesire to work in a fast, collaborative, and team-oriented environmentStrong oral and written communication skillsAdditional Preferred Qualifications:Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and analysis using statistical software packages (JMP, MATLAB, etc.)Experience with automation method development and operation using robotic liquid handling systems and high throughput chromatography resin screeningExperience with multi column chromatographyExperience with process modeling and chromatography mechanistic modelingExperience with early & late-stage regulatory filingExperience in participating in CMC and other cross functional teamsThe base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $130,000 to $180,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual’s skills, experience and competitive market value.
