Health and Human Services Department - Public Health Division
Seeking a qualified individual for a full-time (37.5 hours per week), project position working as a Community Health Promotion Specialist in the Harm Reduction Services Program for the City of Portland's Public Health Division. This position is funded by a federal grant and is designed to provide outreach and supportive connections throughout Cumberland County for people at risk of opioid overdose. Other responsibilities include administration and support of the newly created Cumberland County Overdose Prevention Alliance.
Other responsibilities will include: Providing overdose prevention, recognition, and response trainings, distributing naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and wound care kits to people who use drugs, as well as to partner organizations in communities throughout Cumberland County. This person will work collaboratively with the Harm Reduction Services Program to disseminate information and supplies, as well as with a data specialist to develop and maintain a database and data dashboard of overdoses in Cumberland County. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
Position requires a bachelor's degree in a public health-related field or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. The desired candidate will have experience working in the fields of harm reduction, overdose prevention, substance use prevention and/or treatment, as well as with grant/project management and community coalition building. This full-time position (37.5 hours per week) is grant funded for five years and is primarily in person due to the extensive outreach nature of the work. The hire will need to have a reliable vehicle and be willing to drive to communities throughout Cumberland County. Offers of employment are contingent upon the completion of satisfactory criminal background check.
This is a Pro-Tech Union position - Grade 6 - Pay range starting at $25.50/hour. Accepting applications until vacancy is filled
