The School Nurse has the responsibility to provide expertise and oversight of school health services and to

promote health education. The School Nurse must evaluate the physical conditions of students and refer students

to appropriate resources as needed. Decisions made by the School Nurse require discretionary judgment and

analysis. The School Nurse is responsible for the coordination and performance of the following:

Duties for this position include:

* Treat students and staff for health and safety needs occurring during the school day and carefully

document treatments and procedures

* Develop care plans for students with ongoing conditions such as diabetes or seizures and assist

with the daily implementation of the plans

* Perform vision and other health screenings as required by the state of Indiana for the appropriate

age/grade levels of students

* Consult with teachers, school administrators, and other school staff regarding student healthcare
* Administer medications to students as prescribed by doctors
* Monitor student immunization records and make needed communications for those not in

compliance with Indiana's immunization laws

* Educate students and staff on health and wellness procedures
* Help students who have disabilities requiring nursing assistance and routine daily assistance
* Maintain up-to-date medical knowledge of the many areas of health including mental health

needed in the day-to-day management of school-aged students

* Follow Indiana school laws and policies of Pioneer Regional School Corporation pertaining to

student/staff health and wellness

* Quickly assess emergency situations and act according to established school emergency

procedures

* Maintain current CPR certification and training on use of AED
* Maintain any additional certifications or training requirements as may be required by the State of

Indiana for school nurse personnel

* Regularly inspect and update school AED equipment and/or solicit the assistance of others to

assure that units are up-to-date and in good working order

* Serve on the school safety committee and advise committee members regarding medical

procedures, equipment, etc.

* Work with county health professionals and other community-outreach organizations for county-

wide health initiatives or crisis situations impacting the school community

* Communicate regularly with school administration to inform regarding any health-related

concerns, crisis situations, or issues which may impact school-wide

* Assist with the education of students pertaining to health-related topics that may need to be

addressed through state curriculum requirements by serving as a consultant to staff and/or a

presenter to a group of students or staff

* Assist parents in decision making when it pertains to the health and wellbeing of their school-age

children

* Keep the school health station organized and equipped with the needed supplies and equipment

for day-to-day operation of the school nurse's office

* Provide needed information and supplies to teachers taking students off school grounds for field

trips or student events

* Provide necessary information for any individual who substitutes in the absence of the school

nurse

* Other duties as assigned by the school administration

Qualifications: Possession of a bachelor of science degree in nursing and a current RN license

Benefits Included:

* 8 hour days OT at time and half
* 30 day probationary period
