Through its highly collaborative environment, the Department of Radiation Oncology strives to provide the best and safest care for patients today, to educate the next generation of radiation oncologists and radiotherapy professionals, and to develop better cancer treatments and technologies for the future. The selected individual will provide leadership and direction across clinical programs and its 4 divisions including Clinical, Healthcare Engineering, Therapeutic Medical Physics and Cancer Biology.

UNC Radiation Oncologists are part of a multidisciplinary cancer team that optimizes the coordination of patient needs and treatment recommendations. This relationship significantly enhances the Department's translational research capabilities and the development of innovative clinical trials at both the institutional and national levels. The Department has active research programs in clinical oncology, radiation and cancer biology, medical physics, and is an acknowledged world leader in the area of computer-aided radiotherapy treatment planning. Research projects include clinical research, Carbon Nanotube-Based Radiation Systems, Treatment Planning, Image Deformation and Image Guided Radiotherapy.

The Department is committed to education and includes residency programs in radiation oncology and medical physics, certificate programs in radiation therapy and medical dosimetry, and graduate and postdoctoral training in physics, computer science, biomedical engineering and cancer biology.

The selected individual will lead a diverse group of faculty, trainees, and staff members and will oversee all aspects of the Department, including clinical practice, education, research, and fiscal management consistent with the strategic planning of the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Hospitals/UNC Health.

This recruitment is Open Track/Open Rank and the appropriate track and rank will be determined once the top candidate is selected.
