PART TIME EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN

This position works 12-hour rotating shifts and will be required to attend all continuing education classes required by Onslow County-Camp Lejeune EMS System.
This position will be required to attend an in-person, one-week Academy that is held Monday-Friday, 0800-1700 and complete a Field Training Program after completion of the Academy.
Qualified candidates will be asked to participate in a skills assessment and an interview for this position.
This position is part time and will only be paid for hours worked and is not eligible for any benefits.
* Operates ambulances to respond to emergency calls and non-emergency calls.
* Provides basic life support techniques and first-aid procedures based on patient assessment and in accordance with established guidelines and written or verbal instructions from physicians.
* Gathers basic medical and insurance information.
* Responsible for communication and documentation of patient medical information during transport to receiving medical care facility.
* Monitors patient during transport and administers additional care as needed.
* Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member.
* Performs additional tasks as required.
Thorough knowledge of emergency medical care techniques and procedures; thorough knowledge of basic life support methods, procedures and equipment; thorough knowledge of medical terminology; thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, practices, techniques and equipment required for emergency medical treatment; thorough knowledge of the street system and physical layout of the County; ability to perform duties in emergency situations and to evaluate and differentially diagnose patient's conditions and communicate clearly with professional medical personnel; ability to perform general emergency medical treatment and specialized cardiac treatment; ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency and stress situations; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with physicians, fellow employees and the public; and ability to prepare reports; ability to read maps to research and locate patient destinations.High school diploma or GED with coursework in emergency medical services, or related field and moderate experience as a basic emergency medical technician, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession and maintenance of certification by the North Carolina Medical Examiners Board as an Emergency Medical Technician.
Possession and maintenance of CPR Certification by the American Heart Association.
Valid driver's license.
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
