Position Purpose: Transport non-ambulatory and acute stretcher patients to and from patient's residences and health care facilities. To provide exceptional medical care to all patients they encounter without judgment of their situation. To be patient's greatest advocate, ensure the preservation of their rights, privacy and dignity.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

Position Specific Performance Expectations:

  • Renders basic and advanced life support procedures to patients in a variety of settings consistent with state and local operating protocols.
  • Ability to work a variety of shift lengths that may include 12 and 24 hour shifts, on call shifts and standby/special events of varying hours.
  • Ability to provide good and accurate oral reports to designated medical personnel.
  • Assists in extricating trapped victims and transports sick and injured persons to treatment center.
  • Is competent in age specific treatment protocols.
  • Must possess the ability to read, understand and converse in the English language, road maps and accurately discern street signs and address numbers.
  • Must possess the ability to use good judgement and remain calm in high-stress situations and work in an environment with loud noises and flashing lights.
  • Lifts and places patients on stretcher, restrains patients appropriately, lifts and moves loaded stretcher into ambulance while always practicing safe lifting procedures.
  • Observes, records, and reports to physician, patient's conditions, and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
  • Performs airway, cardiac, vital signs, patient specific treatments, monitoring and interventions including but not limited to: CPR, defibrillation, cardioversion, medication administration, endotracheal intubation and cricothyrotomy, mechanical ventilation, and 12-leads as per Moffat County EMS Protocols.
  • Directs and coordinates patient care between inter-agencies (i.e. Fire and police) personnel and other employees.
  • Drives ambulance to and from emergency and non-emergency scenes in a manner appropriate to dispatch direction and to patient condition and in accordance with driving laws, at all times considering due regard for the safety of self and others.
  • Communicates with Physician and other medical personnel via radio or telephone.
  • Completes all reports, including patient care records, legibly, accurately, and by end of shift or end of every 24 hour period.
  • At each shift, completes daily assigned chores including vehicle inspections, Operative IQ, etc.
  • Performs all duties in a safe, courteous, confidential and professional manner, always taking into account the well-being of the patient.
  • Mentors, trains, and encourages fellow staff as needed, to help them attain their full potential.
  • Maintains response readiness consistent with Moffat County's response criteria.
  • Uses safety and PPE equipment as required by law and EMS Department policies.
  • Participates in required training and in-services.
  • May be asked to assist in the Emergency Department to assist with patient care and assignments as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Upholds regulatory requirements to ensure continual compliance with departmental, hospital, state and federal regulations and policies.
  • Follows all policies and procedures to ensure a safe environment for patients, public and staff.
  • Completes annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated timeframes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff and vendors.
  • Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manages activity and time.
  • Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be able to legally work in the United States
  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable)
  • Must complete employee health meeting
  • Must possess a clean driving record and pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check and meet insurability Guidelines (if applicable) - see below
    • Must be 21 years of age of older
    • Must possess a valid driver's license
    • Must not have three (3) or more violations in three years
    • Must not have any of the following violations, regardless of the time period:
      • Homicide involving a vehicle
      • Using a vehicle to elude an officer
      • Hit and run
      • Manslaughter with a vehicle
      • Felony with a vehicle
      • False report to police department
      • Permitting an unlicensed driver to drive
    • Any two or more preventable accidents in 3 years - a preventable accident is any traffic accident which results in property damage and/or personal injury, regardless of who was injured, what property was damaged, to what extent, or where it occurred, in which the driver in question failed to exercise every reasonable precaution or action to avoid the accident. Driving to avoid preventable accidents is defensive driving. The fact that the driver was not charged with a traffic violation by law enforcement is not a part of our definition.
    • Any driver convicted of any of the following within the last five years:
      • Any alcohol or drug related offense including, but not limited to, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Unencumbered License/Certification (if applicable)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid Colorado EMT-Intermediate certificate
  • Valid BLS certification
  • Valid ACLS Certification
  • ICS 100
  • ICS 700
  • CEVO4 Driver Training
  • PALS or NRP Certification Preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous EMS experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • General computer skills

Position Classification: Non-exempt

Compensation Range: $22.89/hour to $33.19/hour
