QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Valid state license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse in the State of Missouri
  2. Prior experience working in school nursing or pediatric nursing
  3. Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.

JOB GOAL:

To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of health and well-being in the district schools.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Conduct school health service, and participate with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program.
  2. Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
  3. Conduct regular student screenings, including weight and height checks and vision and hearing screenings, blood pressure screenings, and scoliosis screening on 6th through 8th grade students.
  4. Assume responsibility for the care of a student or staff member in accordance with physician signed instruction and proper first aid procedures.
  5. Assume responsibility for referral of students in need of medical and dental care.
  6. Report to parents, school personnel, and other agencies on student medical matters when appropriate.
  7. Check first aid kits and keep them supplied as needed, and keep inventory of district medical supplies and order supplies from yearly allotted budget.
  8. Authorize exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases in accordance with adopted policies and regulations.
  9. Sponsor the Future Health Careers Club and assist students in finding information on available health careers.
  10. Advise on modification of the educational program to meet health needs of individual students.
  11. Participate in in-service training programs.
  12. Assist public health agencies in setting up and recording immunizations and TB testing as necessary.
  13. Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Board of Education or Superintendent of Schools.


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
