Registered Nurse - Radiation Oncology - Methodist

Shift: Days, 40 hours/week

Welcome to UnityPoint Health's Radiation Oncology and Brachytherapy Center We are located in the John Stoddard Cancer Center. We provide direct care for patients of all ages including children to geriatrics. Our patient population includes those currently receiving Radiation Therapy and follow up post treatment. Successfully functions as a Registered Nurse as defined in Iowa Nursing Regulations and Practice Act. Provides nursing care for patients and families and maintains a practice environment that reflects the ANA Code for Nurses, Philosophy of Nursing at Iowa Health Des Moines within the structure of the Professional Nurse Practice Model and in collaboration with other care givers. Successful performance contributes to a holistic approach to the delivery of services, quality patient/family care, and a high level of satisfaction from patients and families.

Responsibilities

* Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgment, maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of patients.
* Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served).
* Carries out the physician's medical plan of care.
* Documents patient care and patient response to nursing intervention in a clear, concise, legible manner, according to policy/procedure.
* Supports and works effectively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to perform basic and complex nursing care techniques.
* Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education:

Graduate of accredited nursing program.

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Experience:

One year of oncology experience preferred.

Experience appropriate to the age of the patients served in assigned service area preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Maintain current licensure in to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa.

Must maintain BLS

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.

Multicultural sensitivity.

Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
