The goal of the research at HAARP is to conduct a fundamental study of the physical processes at work in the very highest portions of our atmosphere, called the thermosphere and ionosphere.

The Geophysical Institute's HAARP site supports the National Science Foundation's Subauroral Geophysical Observatory (SAGO), a research laboratory dedicated to exploring Earth's upper atmosphere and geospace environment. The Geophysical Institute is committed to equity, inclusion, and accountability and values the open sharing of different perspectives. We support a respectful and welcoming environment and a commitment to serving Alaska and Alaskans with strong applied science. Career growth and professional development are expected and encouraged.

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and in a group setting, including following, interpreting, and communicating instructions given by management. The candidate will be able to assist with power plant maintenance and operations, including preflight startup checklist, start procedures and operations, power to array, and shutdown. The candidate will have experience using heavy equipment, including forklifts, graders, and brush mowers. The candidate will be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The candidate will be able to interpret various technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
