- Position Summary
- Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Endo/Minor Surgery Technician's responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining, selecting, preparing and assisting the physician/RN with the scopes, instruments, and supplies necessary to perform specified endoscopy/minor procedures at SMHC. The Endo/Minor Surgery Technician is trained to assist the physician/RN with equipment selection, set-up prior to and cleanup upon completion of the procedure as well as to maintain sterile technique, while passing instruments, sponges and sutures to physicians during the procedure. The Endo/Minor Surgery Technician monitors all sterile and unsterile supplies within the Endo/Minor suite. Specifically, this includes ordering, setting and maintaining shelf levels of stock items, special order products and instruments. The Endo/Minor Surgery
- Technician ensures scheduled preventive maintenance for all endoscopy equipment. Implicit in the assignment is the responsibility to promote positive, effective communication with all hospital personnel. Adheres to established departmental code of conduct.
- Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Education: N/A
- License/Certifications: CNA certification preferred.
- Experience: Previous Endoscopy experience preferred. Minimum of one year's experience in an acute care setting is required.
- Understanding of medical terminology required.
- Knowledge of surgical asepsis as it applies to supplies and equipment in a Minor Surgical setting is preferred.
- Has successfully completed a comprehensive, competency-based orientation to the role, responsibilities and skills required to perform as Endo/Minor Surgery Technician.
- Performs multiple, ongoing tasks and is able to anticipate the needs of the nurse/physician in order to keep assigned room/case running in a smooth and effective manner.
- Promotes teamwork through effective communication with patients, family members and all hospital personnel.
- Organizational skills essential.
