DescriptionGENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:The Translational Research Program Manager reports to the PI/Director of the MGH Coagulation lab and with general direction will oversee day-to-day operations and safety as well as conduct and lead research projects, participate in protocol development and manage project financial planning. The Program Manager will collaborate closely with physicians and lab staff to develop, coordinate and supervise all stages of the Coagulation Lab’s translational research projects. The Program Manager will lead the operations and personnel of the Coagulation Laboratory as well as oversee the regulatory management of coagulation correlative trials and production/maintenance of a clinical database for blood sample repository. The Program Manager will manage, troubleshoot and operate lab equipment. The Program Manager will train and ensure competency of users on equipment, lab processes and research studies.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Laboratory Oversight ~35% of timeManage day-to-day operations of blood sample collection for coagulation lab study processing and storage. Establish and maintain policies and procedures, monitor and report consent and collection statistics. Recruit, train and supervise CRC, data entry and laboratory staff. Provide support, direction, and development to staff.Manage regulatory responsibilities for correlative trials run by the Coagulation Research Laboratory.  Includes ordering of lab supplies.Back up support for blood sample collection and processing if needed.Development and Execution of Research Projects ~35% of timeOversight and execution of the development, implementation, and analysis of translational research initiatives.Organization of research meetings, and other forums related to the development and implementation of projects.  Lead the execution of projects as required for the achievement of project goals. Identify resources, track and monitor projects to ensure projects progress with staffing, tools, information, timelines, etc.Draft materials for research presentations, manuscripts, and grants.Design correlative research protocols in conjunction with PIs, recommend protocol changes and/or assist with writing protocols.Data Management ~15% of timeCreate and manage databases; perform data audits, assuring quality control.  Oversee data entry, data quality and report production by staff.  Analyze and organize data for publications or presentations.Prepare and present reports to PIs, staff, and external audiences.Financial Management ~15% of timeProvide input as to feasibility of projects and available resources.Generate cost projections and timelines for experiments and projects.Establish and maintain Center budgets in collaboration with Grant Administrators and PIs.Work with PIs, Grant Administrators, research management and research finance to ensure proper fund management and timely reporting.General Responsibilities Participate in and/or lead committees, meetings and presentations.Perform other responsibilities and projects as assigned.QualificationsSKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:  Time Management: Exceptional organizational skills and ability to organize time and priorities effectively. Ability to recruit, train and supervise staff and to ensure that performance evaluations, payroll, employee changes and other HR transactions are completed in an accurate and timely manner. Ability to provide support, direction, and development to staff.Professional knowledge: Extensive knowledge regarding research operations and project management, grant and laboratory management, sponsor and institutional guidelines and requirements, etc. Leadership: Ability to identify issues/projects and initiates plans to address; Demonstrates forthrightness and integrity.  Ability to develop a common vision for diverse constituents, communicate effectively, sell ideas, and take ownership and responsibility for activities.Discretion and Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters discreetly and to ensure confidentiality guidelines are maintained by staff. Critical Thinking/Decision Making: Ability to appropriately evaluate all aspects of a situation and to independently make appropriate and timely decisions. Interpersonal/communication: Excellent interpersonal/communications skills and a good command of English language, including medical and scientific terminology.  Able to effectively engage with leaders to set personal priorities, boundaries, timelines and expectations within a realistic framework.  Strength of leadership and personality to address and resolve differences between personnel.Information Systems/Technology Skills: Exceptional computer skills (including operating systems, word processing, database, electronic mail, Internet, and spreadsheets).Safety/Compliance: Knowledge in all aspects of laboratory safety and ability to ensure a safe environment for laboratory staff and subjectsEDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required in a scientific discipline with Master’s degree preferred.EXPERIENCE:5 - 7 years of progressively more responsible work experience within a clinical research project setting required.  Operational and personnel management experience needed.  Some work with finance needed.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):  Will supervise Clinical Research Coordinators as well as per diem staff.FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):Prudent use of hospital resources, cost-effective ordering of supplies, proper staffing and overtime utilization, expense forecasting, budget management and appropriate negotiation and ordering of equipment.WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties will be performed in an ambulatory office and laboratory setting.Job Field: Research-ManagementOrganization: Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH)Schedule: Full-timeShift: Day JobEmployee Status: Regular
