This Nurse Consultant position conducts licensure and/or Medicare certification on-site surveys (may be initial, routine, or complaint investigation surveys) or in office review of documentation to ascertain compliance with applicable State Licensure and/or Federal Certification Regulations for Acute Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, Psychiatric Hospitals, Abortion Clinics, Ambulatory Surgery Centers, Cardiac Rehabilitation Centers, End Stage Renal Disease Providers, Portable X-Ray, Rural Health Clinics, Outpatient Rehabilitation Therapists, and Rehabilitation Facilities.

Job responsibilities include:

* Perform on-site standard and/or complaint surveys of health care providers to ensure compliance with State Licensure and/or Federal Regulations relative to the programs being surveyed.
* Use findings obtained from survey activity (i.e., observations, record review, interviews, etc.) to prepare deficiency reports, which provides legal documentation of provider's non-compliance with applicable State Licensure and/or Federal regulations.
* Review plans of correction submitted by providers in response to cited deficiencies resulting from surveys.
* Provide clarification and information to the public, providers, and prospective providers on the licensure and certification process, requirements, and interpretations.
* Intake complaints and concerns from the public for investigation.
* Respond to written requests for information to the public, providers, and other agencies.

This is a home-based position in the Central/Eastern Region and should reside in Wake, Alamance, Guilford, Johnston, Pitt, Craven, Cumberland, Hoke, Robeson, Wayne, Nash, Wilson, Edgecombe, or a surrounding county.

About the Division of Health Service Regulation and the Acute & Home Care Licensure & Certification Section

The Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) provides for the health, safety and well-being of individuals through effective regulatory and remedial activities including appropriate consultation and training opportunities and by improving access to health care delivery systems through the rational allocation of needed facilities and services.

The Acute and Home Care Licensure and Certification Section ensures standards of care are provided for the health, safety and well-being of citizens receiving services in State licensed and Medicare/Medicaid facilities and agencies through effective regulatory oversight, consultation and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

* Strong clinical background, including assessment, care planning, and delivery of care.
* Skills in communicating effectively (verbally and in writing).

* Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze data for decision-making.

 

Must possess a valid driver's license with the ability to drive a vehicle.

 

 Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, and walk for long periods; ability to lift luggage (20-50 pounds); close visual acuity.

 

 Management Preferences:

* Nursing experience working in acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, cardiac rehabilitation centers, end stage renal disease facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, and abortion clinics. 
* Experience using a computer and MS Office applications.

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and one year of experience in the area of specialization.
