CHILD NUTRITION MANAGER

Under direction, to manage the operation of an elementary and/or intermediate school cafeteria; to prepare, cook and serve meals; to do related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Plans, assigns, supervises and performs work in the preparation, cooking, baking, serving and sale of breakfast, lunch, and other a la carte items from a standardized cycle menu;

Trains and instructs new personnel in methods and procedures of tasks assigned;

Supervises cleaning of kitchen equipment and eating utensils;

Requisitions foodstuffs and supplies;

Checks quantities and condition of foods upon arrival;

Takes inventories of foods and supplies;

Keeps various records of child nutrition activities;

Prepares written reports and submits such to the Child Nutrition Production Supervisor or Child Nutrition Director; is responsible for collection and preparation of money for banking.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

The proper methods of preparing, cooking, baking, and serving foods and maintaining child nutrition facilities in a safe and sanitary condition;

Nutrition and the requirements of the National School Lunch Program;

Quantity control;

Methods of supervision and recordkeeping.

Ability to:

Prepare large quantities of foods skillfully;

Operate equipment found in school child nutrition facilities;

Instruct and supervise a small number of workers;

Requisition proper amounts of foods and supplies;

Handle money and keep records;

Understand and carry out oral and written directions;

Establish and maintain effective working relationships;

Perform some heavy manual labor.

Experience:

Two years of large quantity food production experience, including six months of active participation with main dish cooking; or six months at the level of Child Nutrition Assistant I or II in the Conejo Valley Unified School District.

Education:

Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary education.

Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements

ü Certified Food Protection Manager from an accredited vendor

ü Valid California Class C Driver's License

Physical Requirements:

The ability to pass a physical examination deemed appropriate by the District and perform the physical requirements of the position.
