DescriptionI.    JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1)    Reporting to the deputy associate director, the assistant director oversees the activities of the Advanced Foreign Economies (AFE) and Emerging Market Economies (EME) sections. Provides leadership and support to the section chiefs in managing section resources to address the ongoing needs of the division and to assure high-quality completion of section responsibilities and critical work demands.2)    Provides intellectual leadership for analysis, forecasts, and research on advanced foreign economies and emerging market economies and their implications for the US and the global economy that affect international payments, foreign exchange markets, and U.S. economic activity and policy.3)    Contributes to the Board- and FOMC-related responsibilities of the division; maintains an active research agenda, including on policy-relevant topics; and supports the research activities of section staff and other members of the division. Participates in the Division’s program of longer-term research, including authoring and publishing research papers 4)    Briefs the Chair, individual Board Members, and the full Board on economic, financial, and external developments in global markets and policy issues, as required.5)    Supports the division’s strategic research topics and management priorities; champions division-wide programs such as diversity, equity & inclusion, and employee engagement.6)    Actively coaches and mentors the next generation of talent and promotes good contingency and succession planning.  7)    Builds strong working relationships with colleagues in partner divisions at the Board. Fosters a diverse and inclusive work environment.8)    Represents the division, the Board, or the System, on committees or in meetings with other divisions, the Reserve Banks, other agencies, international meetings, professional conferences, or other outside groups.II.    DIVISION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:Oversees and guides the AFE and EME sections and is responsible for the day-to-day operations. With deputy associate director and associate director, provides leadership and direction to economists and research assistants on current policy analysis and original economic research. Ensures that high-quality information and services are provided to the division and to enable division leadership to make informed decisions.  The individual is a broad conceptual thinker with a practical orientation and an ability to translate complex concepts into applied advice and practice. The individual has strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communications skills, and excellent management and leadership abilities. Relocation assistance is available.III.    KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:  1)    A Ph.D. in economics, finance or related field is required. 2)    Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in economics or finance related fields generally required after receiving advanced degree. 3)    Minimum of 2 years of successful people-management experience.  Additional experience managing people is strongly preferred. 4)    Demonstrated success in conducting research and leading teams of research professionals.
