DUTIES:

Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates a full time vacancy for a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Special Education Department. LPN needed to perform professional nursing services to students with disabilities in the classroom, community, etc. as stated on student IEP. Must provide and maintain acceptable health standards, school health records, and the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems in accordance with state and district policies; does related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold valid New York State LPN licensure, current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications; the ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other nursing and instructional staff; top-notch oral and written skills; strong attention to detail; willingness to take responsibility for student's well-being; and the ability to appropriately respond to pediatric illness and/or injury.

CHARACTERISTICS DESIRED:

Previous school district experience or working with special needs patients and experience with tracheostomy care, gastrostomy feedings and seizures (including those with Diastat) strongly preferred. Additionally, previous experience working with cardiac issues, shunts, baclofen pumps, etc. is strongly preferred. Candidates must be highly organized, flexible, and have effective communication and problem solving skills. A positive, can-do attitude is a must.
