 DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department

 HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility. 

 LOCATION: 825 L St. AnchorageUnder general supervision provides all aspects of public counter duties, cash management duties, processing of various applications, and response to public questions and complaints. Assist in preparation and mailing of routine correspondence such as letters, notices, and invoices. Assist with the administration of food workers' tests. Assure strict security of personal and financial data, receive and track cash, checks. credit cards; operate cash register; prepare daily activity and cash summary reports, collect daily receipts and deposits in safe, and reconcile division revenue. Assist in initial response data for complaints. Provide administrative support to Division Managers and Department Supervisors as necessary. Draft and prepare correspondence and fiscal management reports. Prepare purchase orders, maintain procurement cards, authorize invoices, and order supplies as needed. Maintain filing systems as directed and manage office inventory and equipment. Coordinate department meetings. Provide phone coverage for Department phone lines. Provide staff support for AHD Commissions to include attending, setting up and taking minutes at meetings, updating the websites and other duties as assigned. Responsible for the tracking, distribution, and response of Conditional Use Permit process. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

 

 The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster AHD's employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery.

 High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in office clerical work.

OR

Associates degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems or similar discipline and experience in office clerical work.

 

 

* Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM.

Note: The typing documentation or certification must contain the applicant's name and be current within the past one (1) year. 

 Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees.  AMEA employees who are successful in the screening process will be forwarded to the Department for consideration prior to any non-AMEA applicants.

Military Service Interview Preference:

Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.

Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application.  Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.  The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
