DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist serves as a key player in our community and our schools by implementing and developing programs during the ten-month school year that will educate and prevent alcohol and drug addiction. This position delivers evidence-based drug and alcohol prevention programming to students at all levels from kindergarten through twelfth grade. You will have the opportunity to establish lesson plan guidelines for teachers and augment existing materials to meet requirements of school personnel. This includes playing an active role in conducting trainings for teachers, parents, service-providers, and the community at large.

This position also serves as a D&A Liaison at Student Assistance Program core meetings in three county school districts. Duties will also include providing intervention services in a school setting, D&A screenings for students, and co-facilitation of support groups. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

* Full-time, seasonal, recurring employment. 10 months per year.
* Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Hours vary based on school district scheduled hours and include evenings.
* This position requires travel both inside and out of Wayne County.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

* One year as a Drug and Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee; or
* A Bachelor's Degree in Health Education, Education, the Social or Behavioral Sciences or related fields and one year experience in drug and alcohol prevention work; or
* Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

* Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, or Wayne counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
