Department Overview

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Melanie Gillingham, Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a background in molecular biology, biochemical techniques, and in vitro studies. Experience working with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSc) is preferred. The lab is focused on using cell culture and mouse models of long-chain 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (LCHAD) deficiency and potential therapeutic treatment options including viral gene therapy vectors. A successful candidate should demonstrate excellent written and oral presentation skills.

OHSU is a highly collaborative environment. Fellows will have the opportunity to interact/collaborate with researchers from genetics, neurosciences, and clinical research programs focused on rare inborn errors of metabolism. Recent techniques in iPSc have led to rapid advancement of disease specific model systems that can be used to test novel treatments. Several laboratories are actively pursuing gene therapy options for treatment of inborn errors of metabolism. Candidates with interest in inborn errors of metabolism research are especially encouraged to apply.

Function/Duties of Position

* Participate in lab work and research

* Develop innovative research projects and tools

* Prepare results for publication and presentation

* Attend and present technical status reports at group meetings

Required Qualifications

* PhD, MD or MD/PhD in relevant field

Preferred Qualifications

* Intensive training in the areas of genetics/genomics, molecular biology or biochemistry
* In vitro experiment and iPSC experience preferred
