ROLE AND PURPOSE: To provide guidance and support related to Professional Learning programs and initiatives, specifically building instructional coach and teacher capacity and understanding of effective instructional practices, and developing, coordinating, implementing, supporting, and evaluating the district instructional coach model in order to increase teacher effectiveness and improve the quality of instruction in Title 1 and non-Title 1 schools.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree in educational leadership or curriculum and instruction, preferred or in progress
- Texas mid-management or other appropriate Texas supervisor-certificate, preferred
Experience:
- Elementary AND secondary experience (preferred)
- Minimum three years of successful teaching experience
- Two years of campus or district leadership experience preferred
- Experience using technology to improve teaching and learning
- Ability to design, facilitate, and coordinate professional learning using a variety of learning designs
- Strong knowledge and skills designing engaging lessons using learning standards and research based instructional practices and strategies
- Proficient in principles, methods, techniques, strategies, and trends in effective professional learning and instructional coaching, as well as leadership and facilitation of adult learning
- Thorough knowledge of data collection, analysis, interpretation, goal development, and instructional planning
- Strong technical, organization, communication, and interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Efficient and versatile in managing multiple tasks while standards focus on goals and results
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
- Anticipate clear expectations for instructional coaches to support the instructional development of all teachers as content-specific and/or generalist who work with teachers to improve instructional quality across all subject areas
- Provide professional learning on research-based instructional strategies to ensure high-quality instruction, increasing time on task, and model learners design development and implementation.
- Support the role of the instructional coach, in collaboration with the principal, to ensure high quality classroom instruction and support for professional learning implementation occurs through ongoing modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and constructive feedback.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
- Support the role of district Best Practices coaches, to ensure high quality coaching and support of campus coaches.
- Assist with all aspects of professional learning programs, including the New Teacher Orientation, New Teacher, Leadership Conference, Professional Learning Committees, and district-wide professional learning on various initiatives including Active Learning Cycle.
- Schedule campus visits and learning walks with principals and curriculum and instructional staff to monitor the delivery of the curriculum and implementation of identified instructional practices. - Climate.
SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
- Assist in development of a high quality, comprehensive professional learning program designed to create a community of adult learners committed to enhancing student learning and success
- Apply a cycle of continuous improvement to engage in inquiry, action research, data analysis, planning, implementation, reflection, and evaluation.
- Use multiple sources and types of formative and summative student, educator, and organizational data to guide Campus Needs Assessments, Campus Improvement Plans, classroom instructional improvements, inform instructional coaching needs, and differentiated professional learning.
- Develop and maintain supplemental instructional resources, including a demo video library, books, instructional aides, and online materials
- Demonstrate problem solving/investigative skills to research and respond to inquiries concerning professional learning practices, models, and strategies
- Observe and assess coaching skills to identify program strengths and areas for improvement and improve the overall effectiveness of instructional coaches.
- Plan, facilitate, and monitor coaching skills with teacher teams and individual teachers as needed.
- Work to develop strong relationships with and among coaches, teachers, and teams of teachers to design and plan for job-embedded professional learning, including collaborative planning, in grade-level or department meetings, in the classroom, and in small study groups.
