PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Anesthesia Technician is responsible for assisting the anesthesia team with specific patient care tasks, care of equipment, and provides selective anesthesia procedure set-ups, under the direction of the Anesthesia Technician Supervisor/Coordinator, CRNA, and/or Anesthesiologist. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the anesthesia team with specific patient care/tasks, provides selective anesthesia procedure set-ups, and assists with patient transport to PACU/ICU under the direction of the Anesthesia Technician Coordinator/Anesthesia Care Provider. Applies patient monitoring equipment (BP cuff/EKG/BIS/SPO2), under direction of CRNA the anesthesia care provider. Assists the anesthesia team during induction of patient, during emergency situations and in preparation for transport. Provides necessary equipment/supplies/drugs for the anesthesia team at all perioperative sites, including the Women’s Center, HVIS, GI Labs, MRI, and EP Labs. Performs appropriate anesthesia set-up procedures with specialized equipment and adheres to anesthesia policies and procedures. Provides set-up for proper airway equipment, invasive lines, primes fluid warmers, and prepares fiberoptic intubation cart for use as indicated. Performs between case anesthesia cleaning procedures, including the cleaning of special equipment/carts, and performs weekly cleaning procedures. Trouble-shoots all monitoring equipment and anesthesia machines and safely handles/changes gas cylinders and patient monitors. Orders and maintains par levels of anesthesia supplies and drugs; restocks anesthesia cart with drugs and supplies. Assembles, transports, and safely connects the power and gas supply for the anesthesia machine and cart for the procedures performed out of the Operating Room. Insures all equipment, supplies and drugs are available. Calibrates and troubleshoots anesthesia equipment and monitors and initiates service calls for broken anesthesia equipment as needed. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to Supervisor in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors. Performs other related duties as required. SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS: Frequent contact with nursing staff, patients, families, visitors, medical/dental staff, ancillary staff, students, community agencies, vendors, staff from other hospitals, and general public. DIRECTIONS/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: None DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Anesthesia Technician Supervisor/Anesthesia Care Provider EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High School Graduate or Equivalent required Previous patient care experience required Previous experience working in the Operating room preferred Practical knowledge of equipment and procedures used in administration of anesthesia preferred Schedule/Hours: Primary Schedule: 3pm-11pm M-F Schedule can sometimes flex later due to business needs Primary Location: Newark Operating room but, occasionly but not often may need to float to Wilmington Campus and the Surgicenter @ Map 2 for coverage KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrates knowledge of operating room/anesthesia supplies, equipment, and instrumentation. Demonstrates knowledges of appropriate chain of command. Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.  Demonstrates knowledge of CCHS Core Values and departmental policies/procedures. Demonstrates computer skills and ability to utilize various software applications. Demonstrates ability to trouble-shoot technical issues effectively. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills by effectively dealing with/managing others at a variety of levels with diplomacy and tact. Demonstrates safe and accurate skills in the use of telephone paging system. Adapts to a high volume, high stress area. Organize work while managing multiple tasks. Communicates efficiently and effectively in both written and verbal form. Works independently with established guidelines. Maintains confidentiality of patient medical records, hospital staff, physician, and administrative matters. Performs required technical skills as outlined in procedures. Follows standard precautions and uses appropriate safety measures for patients, coworkers, and self. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: BCLS certification PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, and climb as per unit based physical demands checklist. WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent exposure to biological and environmental elements with occasional exposure to chemical elements as per unit based Physical Demands Checklist.
