Located in Moreno Valley, the 439-bed Medical Center and its 60+ hospital-based primary and specialty care clinics have been recognized for the delivery of high quality care.

Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Medical Center is a teaching facility that provides a supportive environment and encourages professional growth, development, and advancement. Our team's commitment to excellence is evident by the numbers of our RN's who are Critical Care Registered Nurse certified and hold Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. Nursing professionalism, experience, and education are rewarded by the nursing career ladder that allows Registered Nurses to advance in salary. Additional benefits include holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, savings investment plans and retirement benefits, professional development opportunities, tuition discounts, employee assistance, rehabilitation services and institutional commitment to work-life balance.

The Emergency Department at Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Medical Center is a large unit comprised of 44 treatment areas. There are multiple acute trauma and cardiac beds with 25 general exam rooms include a decontamination room and security rooms. The ED is open 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week. The ED uses a Rapid Medical Evaluation process called RME, which means that the patients are seen quickly by an Emergency Medicine provider. The census during peak flow times can surge to 80 to 130 patients in the department.

The ED has attending physician coverage around the clock, provided by board certified emergency physicians. Since we are a teaching facility, the attending physicians regularly supervise resident physicians. RUHS is dedicated to educating the community and the ED regularly hosts students of all types, from ROP medical assistants, EMTs & EMT-Ps, LVNs, RNs, NPs and PAs.

This ED sees about approx. 90,000 patients annually. This translates to about 246 patients in 24 hours. The busiest days are always Mondays (Tuesdays and sometimes Wednesdays) when the census can reach 270. We operate as a Base Station hospital and offer all our RN staff to become MICNs (Mobile Intensive Care Nurses). These nurses can answer the paramedic radios and direct ambulance traffic and supervise patient care in the field. We are a Level I, American College of Surgeons Certified, and Trauma Center with a helipad. We admit an average of 1600 critical trauma patients annually. Most of our trauma patients are victims of blunt trauma (80%). Most of that trauma is motor vehicle related (45%).

The ED assures that the licensed staff has specific training in Trauma, such as TNCC and ATCN, (Trauma Nursing Core Course and Advanced Trauma Care Nurse). All RN staff are expected to have PALS (or ENPC) and ACLS and have taken Basic Coronary Care Class.
